Can't really choose between Fripp, Hackett and Gilmour, I love all three of them and Zappa is not far behind. My personal addition would be Fred Frith.

I voted for Fripp, but I would much prefer to have had the option of voting for Fred Frith.  Or Ollie Halsall.  Or Henry Kaiser.  Or Phil "Snakefinger" Lithman.  Or Phil Miller.  Or Roger Trigaux.  Or Steve Hillage.  I love Pye Hastings as a singer and songwriter and rhythm guitarist, but I wouldn't have voted for him for lead guitar.  Of those listed in the poll, the only other ones I would have considered voting for would have been Zappa or Holdsworth.

I think Dave Gilmour gets better and better with age. His latest live effort is just brilliant, suggesting to me that the rhythm section of Pink Floyd never really stretched him as an artist.

After seeing this post I was inspired to check it out. That is some interesting stuff and completely NOT my cup o tea at all. I think I can understand why hardly anyone knows about it. Must be a very acquired taste.

However, this is what I love most about PA, the introduction to new music that I never knew existed so thank you for mentioning that album. And related to that, my next thing to check out is Embryo.

Hackett or Lifeson...I can't choose...

Gilmour & Fripp in joint close second.

I give up!
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!
