The great German actress Hannelore Elsner died at age 76 on Apr 21st. Though she is not well known outside out of Germany she was one of the REALLY great actresses. In my opinion she was to Germany what Catherine Deneuve is to France. Both ARD and ZDF, the two major German TV-channels, changed their program to show a movie with her when news of her demise came out. She often portrayed troubled but strong women.

Here three photos of her showing her at different ages:

Elsner received international acclaim for her role in the 2000 movie "Die Unberührbare" ("No Place to Go"; literally "The Untouchable One") which was shown at the Cannes Festival. The last movie she starred in was "Kirschblüten und Dämonen" ("Cherry Blossoms and Demons", 2019), a movie by internationally acclaimed female German director Doris Dörrie.

Jean and I (and many others) will definitely miss her. R.I.P.

Hi,

Goodness ... I was looking for a film to see ... I feel embarrassed ... and I was actually looking for a Fassbinder film (easier to find) to catch, but did not luck out. I always seem to like the less known, or seen folks ... I can't stand the Lorens, the Lollobrigidas, the Bardots, the Hollywood ones and so on.

That is a hack of an impressive film listing ... and I had a thought ... were there any women acting that were also "krautrockers" like Klaus Kinsky was? I don't recall having seen many films that showed that kind of freedom, and the only one that I can think of that was capable of being free form left and right, was Jeanne Moreau ... but that's French, not German! I imagine that some of the Fassbinder stuff is ad lib ... but I have not seen anything written about it at all! The same for Wim Wenders!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

here a link to a movie with Hannelore Elsner, "Alles auf Zucker" ("Go for Zucker"), an ironic comedy about Jewish identity in modern Germany from 2004 in which she has one of the female leads:
