Strange to be one of the newest newbies and at the same time one of the
older (original?) proggers. I go back to the pre-Genesis/KC/Yes, pre-Sgt
Pepper mid-60s when the Moody Blues and Zappa were making tentative
prog noises on either side of the Atlantic. I guess I'm celebrating 40 years of
prog!! My personal favourites have mostly been at the experimental end of
the spectrum esp. Faust and Zappa and more recently Deus Ex Machina
(discovered here). For nearly 20 years prog languished, so I'm overjoyed to
see that the internet has provided the platform for this incredible
groundswell of interest in innovative music. More power to the creative
musicians amongst us and best wishes to all my fellow proggers.

Welcome, Ironing Mike (or can I call you Mike?).

How many of those original prog bands have you seen live "in the old days"?

Welcome to another Aussie prog veteran. Youngsters take note- love of prog is a lifelong sentence.

Taa for the entrees. Still think of myself as a bit of a spring chicken - the
music definitely keeps you "vibed". Luckily for me as a high school
student in the 60s and uni student in the early 70s I was honoured to pick
up on a lot of the great music that toured at the time. The pre-Tommy
Who and the Thick As a Brick era Tull are two standouts in terms of sheer
concert dynamics. To have bits of Keith Moon's drum kit raining down
around you during the My Generation encore (and on a revolving stage)
was memorable, as was the consumate showmanship of Mr Anderson.
Can I also add Mahavishnu Orchestra, Tangerine Dream, Deep Purple, Yes
and Manfred Mann's Earthband to my list of memorables?

Maiden, as powering as ACDC are, the most awesome locally produced
(OK, New Zealand) prog act I had the pleasure to catch was surely the
early Split Enz. Any other OZ-proggers catch them around '74-'75?

Hi Mike

Welcome to this very exclusive club. Good to have someone of experience on board. I was in my teens in the neo prog years, and I like bands like Marillion, IQ but my favourites are Rush, Genesis, The Enid, Yes, Renaissance, Pink Floyd, Hawkwind.

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

which gets a little less exclusive every day...

Hi Mike, Good to have you with us; we hope you get a great amount of enjoyment out of the site.

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson
