Edgar made the decision to return the band to a more "classic" format in 2014, maybe even earlier. Bernard Beibl was the first to go, followed by Iris and then Linda. The main impetus was plummeting album sales paired with the cost of maintaining a large roster. Their last North American tour had left TD with a significant deficit (they also lost money on the recent tour).

Hi,

It's a shame that 220 VOLT LIVE is not on DVD ... the album, alone, is magnificent, and sometimes not appreciated by many TD fans, but it brought about a "NEW" TD live experience, and it was EXCELLENT, but not to be seen until a bit later with Bernard and the ladies, which might have come alive after Jerome left (2006) ... but the history of TD is empty since the book Edgar left us with ended BEFORE Jerome ... and I imagine that Bianca is not releasing it because of Jerome, and since he will take over from Bianca, when she passes, it will become rather interesting if he will bother not using it as anything but a book. My guess is that a new version of TD will take place, as I doubt that he will get along with the professor and master Thorsten. But his technical ability, is far superior to his creative ability ... and something that I imagine Jerome could work with, but I doubt he will do it ... probably go it alone for a while, and add folks as time allows and passes by.

It's a shame, the experimental and live improvisations TD is doing these days, are far superior to any CD/DVD they have put out, but I have not checked to see how many of these sessions have been placed on DVD ... some of them are outstanding, but not being heard, or discussed at all. I do think, however, that it is really difficult to describe and discuss this material ... like a lot of "improvisations" it is what it is, and defies description, and these are closer to that then the released CD material which is too self-conscious to be better, and more interesting, not to mention the variety of guests they have done some work with (Steve Roach, Nick Beggs ... I do not know the name of that woman guitarist at all !!!! anyone???) and hopefully will add more to their listing. You get to see the creative side of things, and for once, Hoshiko is more interesting than mere ... background to the sequencer and the rest!

I'm glad I don't know a thing about the "future", and that it is not something I'm good at!

I was at the concert and it was a mixed bag. Zlatko's "shreddy-metal" guitar playing didn't pair well with the electronic backing. Jerome played some uninspired guitar lines alongside Zlatko. It wasn't until Edgar's guitar spotlight that it really "felt" like Tangerine Dream that night. The new music all blended together, but "Hamlet" was wonderful.

As for the sax, I know Paul won't like reading this, but Linda just wasn't "there" yet, though her stage presence was very, uh, pleasant. She should've stuck to keyboards on that tour.

If Bianca is no longer in control, Jerome will end Tangerine Dream. He believes the name died with his father and what's happening currently is for commercial gain. In that respect, he's correct, as the current trio probably wouldn't do as well under a different or modified name -- Quantum Dream?

Jerome has already struck out on his own. I think his guitar playing was rather good with Loom. I'm surprised Loom has already concluded their activities, but as Jerome and Johannes happen to be good friends, maybe they'll resume at some point.

I think the Sessions have been a mixed bag, too. The next studio album will be the one that shows where the current trio is really at. Their next release will be a soundtrack.

Hi,

For me they are great, and very much on par with the really early TD for me ...  I call it close your eyes and let it go ... and it's far out. The visuals are nice, but for me, they are not necessary ... I can close my eyes and fly better.

In all honesty, I think they are a bit of a thing that is making sure that TD stays on par with the incredible number of German folks releasing material these days that is quite influenced by earlier TD stuff and has the ability and knowhow to sound good. And some of that stuff (a lot of it is in Space Pirate Radio courtesy of many of the artists and a couple of labels) is way better than what TD has been doing since Edgar went on a permanent vacation ... and I think that Thorsten is smart enough to hear it and do something about it ... however, he has to make better use of Paul and Hoshiko, instead of them simply adding background to all his machines ... which, in this day and age, look rather ridiculous and unnecessary ... which might suggest that Thorsten is out of time and place, and while he can maintain with many of the current dignitaries, he is not as inventive as he thinks he is ... some of the stuff that he did with Marcus Reuter, Steve Roach and others is far superior to what TD has done, and has more "life" in it, than the stoic and rather copy'ish material TD has been doing.

Tangerine Dream Team: Passed and Presence

IRIS CAMAA        Austrian percussionist and blonde bombshell Iris Claudia Martina Antonia Kulterer (better-known as Iris Camaa) was with Tangerine Dream from 2001 thru' to 2014,  but she also has a respectable solo career of her own with her particular brand of Soul-Jazz-Pop sounding nothing at all like Tangerine Dream. Oh, and she sings too! Yes, Iris Camaa truly is a Chameleon. Be prepared to be pleasantly surprised (or not, as the case may be). Iris's solo Dance-Pop albums may be resistible to many Tangerine Dream fans, unlike Iris herself, who's perfectly Irisistible.   Heart

Okay, thanks for letting me know. That's what happens when I copy and paste old links without checking if they still work. I've now updated all of Iris's albums with new links, making them as fresh as newly-laid eggs. Thumbs Up
