Hello, as you can obviously tell, I'm new here.  In case you didn't notice by my interesting monicher, I'm very much into the Avant Guard RIO sort of stuff(Zappa & Beefheart; especially Beefheart).  I also like some of the old Symphonic Prog bands(YES, King Crimson, Genesis) and an Art Rock Band or two(Rush).  Any recvomendations or comments?

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a big RIO fan,but quite a few people here are and are very knowledgeable about the genre.

I got 26 Zappas and 2 Beefhearts in that style of the RIO/Avant section, and a few more in other styles of it.

Thanks a lot.  (to "Maidenrulez") I have listened to Francis The Mute, I found it to be a pretty cool album.  I Myself have only four Zappa albums;all from the original Mothers period(I'm not all that fond of his later work).  I got four Beefheart albums(including Trout Mask Replica;my personal favorate).  Sadly, I don't have all that many symphonic prog works. I only have a couple of albums by YES.  I had forgotten to mention that I'm sort of into experimental post rock(Radiohead;in their Kid A Amnesiac period)

You don't have to like symphonic prog here, I'm not the greatest fan myself. Good call on Radiohead although not everyone here agrees

I have downloaded a few songs by those bands available off this site.  They all sound like very good(and in some cases very bizzarre) groups.  I will certainly have to give them a further listening to.
