I was on a 8 hour drive in British Columbia last month and decided to play some ELP that I had not heard in 20 years or so. It blew me away so much I went and bought the remastered version of "Brain Salad Surgery" and listened to "Karn Evil 9" in its entirety about 10 times. What an incredible composition!
It brought back memories of when I saw ELP on the BSS tour live in '74 with the quadrophonic sound setup. They were able to make a hockey arena sound fantastic.
When I Googled Brain Salad Surgery I surfed to Progarchives and could not tear myself away for a few hours. The reviews are pretty interesting, so here I am - willing to share some insights. I know there is lots of fabulous music out there I have not heard yet.
I'm more of a fringe Prog Rocker in that I have been into Rush, Jethro Tull and ELP since the mid '70's. But I also really dig Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, Helloween, Stratovarius, and Iron Maiden to name a few metal acts. In addition I appreciate Carribbean soca and calypso music from Byron Lee, Kitchener, and Mighty Sparrow.
BTW is Joe Satriani Prog Rock?
