One of the great cult prog bands of the 1970's who I must have seen a dozen times.Any track under 10 minutes was short for Man and the way the guitars of Deke Leonards and Micky Jones swirled around the theatre's was just magic

So there is me,my mate Dave and a guy I once worked with in Wales who loved and still love these kings of Welsh Prog, anyone else out there remember them ?

'Remember' isn't the right word for me as I'm only 17, but Man are a terrific band regardless- I love all of their 60s and 70s albums. My particular favourites are '2 Ozs Of Plastic With A Hole In The Middle', 'Be Good To Yourself At Least Once A Day' and 'Rhinos Winos And Lunatics'. I'm not so fussed on their 90s albums, which veered towards pub rock a bit too much for me, but I believe they are still trodding the boards. However, Micky Jones had a brain tumour a while back and Deke Leonard retired from the band I believe, so those two are no longer there. Martin Ace is however...

They used to be my favourite band but that was before I heard a lot of other prog bands; even so, I really love their sound.

I love them, especially the Do You Like it Here Now Are You Settling In album. They are definitely one of my favourite bands. Deke Leonard's Iceberg were an excellent group too. Other great Welsh bands include Budgie and Sassafras.

I love the first psych-tinged album Revelation but thought that Rhinos, Winos was a terrible waste of time ... very disappointed by that one ... haven't heard any others ...
"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”

"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."

Yes I love the cover of 'Be Good To Yourself...'- a veritable map of Welsh rock! CDs, or the vinyl reissues, can do this cover no justice at all...

On the subject of Sassafras, what sort of music do they play? I'd been under the impression that they were really a West Coast influenced/ pub rock band like Brinsley Schwarz, but I've not heard any of their albums...

I've only heard one song... "Keep on Grinting", was it? Anyway, it was on a prog compilation I got out the library about 5 years ago. I enjoyed it, wanted more, but have never got round to buying any albums and can now barely remember how it sounded. Very jammy, IIRC.

Several classics by Man on that excellent cheap 3CD set from EMI: All Good Clean Fun - worth the 15quid for Bananas! alone - but ad  insome excellent Hawkwind, Bonzo Dog etc.  there makes this a incredible bargain.

They were great!!! What other band would have come up with album titles like '2 Ozs Of Plastic With A Hole In The Middle' or 'Be Good To Yourself At Least Once A Day' (incredible cover artwork, indeed) or song titles like "Would The Christians Wait Five Minutes? The Lions Are Having A Draw". And the music was fantastic, too. Haven't heard what they did in the 80s or 90s, but I loved them back in the 70s.

Caravan shared a bill with them once, along with Rare Bird and SteamHammer...
