Is it on purpose that you don't mention their first two albums, Picturesque Matchstickable Messages From The Status Quo and Spare Parts ?

I'd vote for On The Level, the album with their first classic hit Down Down.

Yes even though i love those 2 albums to bits,i thought i would just include the "proper" Quo albums!

The same person has voted for every one of these albums as far as I can see. Hard to see how else 'Ain't Complaining' would get any votes...

Anyway, I think their albums from about 'Dog Of Two Head' through 'Live' were all excellent albums; from there on I don't really like much they've done though their last album 'Heavy Traffic' was a superb return to form for me. Not heard their newest album 'The Party...' yet. Of those, I think 'Live' is my favourite; one of THE great, yet underrated, live albums.

I own the CD compilation 12 Gold Bars including all the great Seventies boogie-woogie/hardrock songs like Down Down, Rain, Caroline and my favorite Roll Over Lay Down, blue jeans power!

I think they are pretty fairly derided myself!

I like the psych phase (Pictures Of Matchstick Men is a truly brill psych single)

But I have to say that the boogie thing just went on and on and on until the band became a parody/cliche/cabaret

Having said that my favourite album is a surprising one ... the mid 80s effort In The Army Now ... a respectable amount of variety ... with two great singles ... the title track and Red Sky ... and another lovable boogie track to boot ... Dreamin'

For me it's "Piledriver", maybe because it was the first I had. But, dear daz2112, they may be a good rockin' party band, but Status Quo are far from being the best band in the world.

I love to play Status Quo tracks with my band. Good to see that they aren't bashed at in Progland. At least not in this thread  Who says that prog fans aren't open minded?

Maybe not but i've been with them since 1972,suppose i just gotta soft spot for them!! To me they are & always have been one of the best live bands ever! And i have seen quite a few!

What's this? Status Quo in the archives? Fully justified of course, by their development from a three chord guitar band to er...a three chord guitar band with keyboards, obviously this completely justifies er...er....proto prog er....."Matchstick Men" appeared before "In the Court of the Crimson King" so therefore er.....Fripp also played guitar.... er....Keith Emerson also wore leather & denim on stage  er....Beatles.....er......

OK OK sorry for the cutting (if not very witty?!) humour, its Friday afternoon, I just saw mention of Status Quo and I thought well given some of the goings on round here, you never know!!!

I really like the Quo, a good honest rockin'band, but I have no idea which of their albums to choose from. Of those I've heard, "Piledriver" I think.

Oh and in case anyone is proposing them, I personally (if I'm allowed to express an opinion without being condescended to) don't think they're prog but of course I'm prepared to accept the decision of my betters and elders on this site on this one!!
