Topic: Fishbone Posted: March 05 2006 at 21:42 |
I recently discovered these guys, and as a mr bungle fan, dug it immediately. Not a ska fan, but fishbone could be the band to change that. Ska, metal, funk, comedy all mixed in a unique parcel that could appeal to some, though not all, listeners of prog.

I have been a fan for quite some time now, and was lucky enough to have seen them live in their prime, as well as in their current form.
'Truth and Soul' is a classic

Oh boy, Fishbone...man, for me that first album is wacky amazing fun, and In Your Face is just damn incredible. Later, they seemed, for me, to almost suffer from a surfeit of material...every album had so many songs on them, they were hard to digest, but that is my problem.
Funnily enough, at the exact same time, when that first album was current, I was also loving Mojo Nixon...from another planet from Fishbone but just as fun...any Mojoheads here?

I used to love the song "Sunless Saturday".
I thought their albums however, lacked cohesion.

I like Fishbone quite a bit... their bassist is INSANE on the track "Bonin' in the Boneyard" and in general.

<In your face> and <truth and soul> are both incredibly eclectic discs. Their music was then fresh and very entertaining, I like very much their cover of Curtis Mayfield's 'Freddie's dead' and they belong to my favourite bands, regardless of any musical genre. They could play as well punk, funk, ska or soul. After that, Fishbone turned to a hard-rock formula, which wasn't as exciting as in their earlier days.
