I don't know about Elton John's 'prog' albums, but I sure can recommend "Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only the Piano Player" and "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". I don't think they are prog, but they are great classic rock albums all the same.

The following is a list of all Elton John's prog LPs: -

I don't think he ever made anything else like "Funeral for a Friend". I would try any of his earlier albums.

Yeah, not all that much in the way of prog, but lots of great music:

Elton John - first US release (Take Me To The Pilot & Sixty Years On)
11-17-70 - live/awesome
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - a masterpiece/Ballad Of Danny Bailey is proggy...
Caribou - I've Seen The Saucers is proggy, whole record is kind of from the Twilight Zone...
Don't Shoot Me - Amy, Hercules, Mona Lisas & Mad Hatters...
Honky Chateau - Teacher I Need You, Elderberry Wine, Teenage Idol
Tumbleweed Connection - tons of great tunes, Amoreena is one of the best-ever ballads...
Captain Fantastic - again, tons of great tunes, it's a concept album...Title track is proggy...
Rock Of The Westies - great rock 'n' roll record
Here & There - live

1976 was it for me Elton-wise, not interested in anything since then...

Since Sir Elton is not really prog you have to be willing to find individual songs on his albums that might interest you and you might have to wade through some really tacky songs to find them.  "Ticking" on Caribou is a terrific piano performance and an odd lyric.  Many songs on "Tumbleweed Connection" veer into prog territory ("Burn Down the Mission") as well as the title cut to "Madman on the Water."  The previous thread entry had some great suggestions as well.

Sid Smith's book on King Crimson describes Fripp almost interviewing Elton for one of the earlier incarnations of KC.
Now, this may well be an elaborate p+ss take (one never knows with KC & Fripp), but if true, allows a delightful mental image of Elton belting out "Ladies of the Road" or "Catfood" - he could have been a real prog star! Star

I can almost guarantee that this pairing would not have lasted long...Two dominant personalities in the same band make for fireworksStar...I'm telling you, Fripp & Bootsy in that dream band...Embarrassed

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is a masterpiece of R&R, every music collection should have.
After that Honky Chateau, Madman Across the Water and Tumbleweed Collection are truly excellent studio albums. 11-17-70 is one of the best live rock albums ever recorded, Elton in the Raw! Pinch

Madman Across The Water is his second album, one of his best, and the title track has slightly prog features.
