OK, here we go. The poll loosely based on my little survey here. While giving your opinions a careful consideration, I also wanted to make it as diverse and interesting as possible. But in the end I simply closed my eyes and went for it. If some of the names you wanted to see in the poll are not there, I am sorry. The same goes for the names you didn’t want to see in there. Thanks a lot for your help! Enjoy! Smile

No that can't be, because they're - shock, horror! -  a POP band... :P

I nominated them, but I think I was the only one.

You know, seeing someone paying homage to Tool, VDGG and the The Smiths just makes me very happy. Variety is the spice of life.

It's a mistake to include Rush as their first album was in 1974 and the band has been in existence since 1969!

I vote Porcupine Tree.
I like 80s U2 and The Police were a great pop band.
Of the proggy lot Fish-era Marillion were intersting and flew the flag even if they did become mainstream in the end.

ok, from the bands listed above, I like Rush, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Opeth and Dream Theater. But the most important one, the greatest one is Iron Maiden, for one reason because it was one of the first NWOBHM bands and thus was an important influence to the metal genre and additionally I think they have done a lot of great albums with only few fillers. Then come Opeth and Dream Theater...and Rush.

As far as widespread influence on that list, it's gotta be Radiohead.
