Saw several great reviews of an album, "Lagos No Shaking" by a drummer called Tony Allen. Bought it and was a little perplexed at first but am starting to see what it's about - African music - very much with a beat - played by a group led by a great drummer, Tony Allen. Good stuff, no way prog, but great rythmns, brilliant drumming and (if you think you might like Afro-Carribean music) well worth listening to.

How's dos he compare with Reebop - he of session work with Traffic, Jonas Hellborg and  Ginger Baker's Airforce etc.?

The Brazilian percussionists Airto (Moreira) and Nana Vascencelos, and the Indian percussionists Zukar Hussain and Trilok Gurtu should be checked out
