Topic: Anyone else with Tiscali Broadband? Posted: July 08 2006 at 07:27 |
(Not sure where to post this; guess it will be moved if inappropriate)
Is anyone else with Tiscali Broadband & suffering from this problem: on going online, their (Tiscali's)wretched homepage is the one which loads, even though everything is set up to go to our homepage; for some reason their system overrides the set up instructions. We were previously with the normal Tiscali ISP, and had no problems in this regard, which proves that our set up instructions are fine. Naturally (! ) Tiscali refuse to accept that it is their problem - has anyone else had this kind of problem; or can they offer suggestions?

I have Tiscali broadband, with my home page set to Progarchives OK.
Must be something in the system registry which is overriding it I suspect.

I can't understand why , in that case, everything worked ok on the previous (slow) Tiscali connection.......we've not changed anything.........
I did read somewhere that some ISPs were just bloody minded in this respect, deliberately promoting their homepages over the customers, and that one had to be extremely firm in return; but your report ^ would tend to suggest that's maybe not the case with Tiscali. (I must say we've had no problems with them previously & indeed found them to be a great improvement over BTinternet in this regard...)

My friend had a similar problem with another ISP. There were two sets of Internet Explorer, one "provided" by his ISP that was basically built into the ISPs connection program and one that he accessed through start>programs> Internet Explorer. Maybe this is your problem too... Alternatively try downloading and installing Firefox.

Tony - thanks, I'll pass that info on to the webmaster, Mrs Crimson Thing...
(edit)
You might be on to something there, since, when I minimise the logon screen, & call up IE (as I often do to have a 2nd window running), that loads our homepage as per normal - I'll make an appointment with the webmistress & see what she says....

AOL,Tiscali they all do it. How dare they...to me its like graffiti. They write there graffiti all over our property. Really-you should be able to uninstall the Tiscali stuff and your PC will still detect the connection. Depending on what you are using for an email client-Outlook express(?)-you may have to manually re-enter your POP and SMTP addresses and you login and password. The addresses would be something like: pop.tiscali.co.uk (or.com??) smtp.tiscali.co.uk You should not need the tiscali software to access the internet or mail!

Actually.........it seems that yes, just clicking on the IE icon connects, without having to use the Tiscali button.......and that brings up our homepage as per normal........and the email works as per normal....in fact, where we had previously had some problems with things responding rather slowly, that's improved too. (We always felt it was certain programs running on the Tiscali hompage that caused the slowness, although for a while I blamed Mrs Thing for going to iffy sites & she blamed me............).......just need to check, she says, that this is all being dialled through the correct tel #........
