Okay, so here's the deal...
I've been listening a lot to Eloy's Ocean as of late, and i found that it is pretty much what i've been looking for in prog for a long time; floating keyboards, long tracks, hypnotizing bass and silly lyrics sung with extremely bad pronouciation, and so i've been wanting to check deeper into this genre, but the problem is, simply, that i don't know where to look. Yes, i still have hawkwind, nektar and a lot more on this site, but i also have been checking out the doors and i also wanted some directions in the area of "non-prog" psychedelic music (hence my posting this thread in this particular section of the forum...) but... okaj, i'll just say it.. some of the so-called "psychedelic" acts just don't click with me. Namely, JimiHendrix, Syd barret and the Beatles. I'ts just not my idea of what psychedelic music shoud be, i guess i'm more into the space:ier side of the genre.. So, what bands would you recommend to one who's musical knowledge outside of prog is very limited (i was a Bob Dylan freak before i discovered this site, and before that.. well, it's kinda embarrasing..)?
Sorry if i write a bit too much, i just wanted my message to get through, though it probably didn't anyway, heh.. i just liek music to totally space out to, and (with the exception of Astromomy domine and Interstellar overdrive) neither Piper, Sgt.pepper ord Are you experienced does that to me.

(Also, this is my first post, as you can probably see, so.. hello.)

Well, for that, The Flower Kings have you covered. If I never hear another thing about "shildren" it'll be just fine by me.

the Sh/Ch is one of the bigger issues we swedes have with the english language, but i'm not sure if i think "shildren" is even in the vicinity of "strikes sem wiss dithaster".
Still, thanks for the tip, hehe..

So, how do they compare to hawkwind?
(actually, i could just listen to them here, but i'm trying to discipline myself, as i'm thinking of picking up either space ritual of warrior on the edge of time soon, and i kinda want to be surprised. The same reason why i haven't a clue as to what VDGG sounds like.)

Oh, trust me - Roine runs the gamut of Swedish pronunciation errors and then makes up a few of his own. He's the only Swede I've ever heard who will add a z sound where it doesn't belong. So he'll turn "face" into "phase" by holding and even stretching a very clear zzzzzz at the end.

So, it's far beyond just "a Swede having problems" into a world of some delusional rules that I don't know where he comes up with.

And, honestly, the sh/tsh issue can easily be solved if you just think about it (which you should be doing when recording in the studio), because even though Swedish words rarely if ever start with a tsch sound, it's in a lot of words. I doubt that Roine pronounces "match" as "mash".

it's the same with jeans (yiins/djiins) as well..
Honestly, Frank bornemanns pronounciation is a slight problem, as i simply can't hear the beginning of "Atlantis' agony.." och "poseidons creation" without cracking up several times, and it kinda breaks my concentration somewhat. Still, it's kinda fun, and i don't think i'd change it even if i could..

(that z-thing sounds pretty interesting, is there a song here on PA which includes it?)

Sorry, I don't know. I tend to not listen too much to TFK partly because of this issue.

Try some psych oriented folk! TREES is a wonderful band, and there's an audio sample at their PA page. For more common LSD oriented psych, try Swedish "The Spacious Mind"! Smile
