I am a skilled musician, and I have a good knowledge of music. He can play, and he's a good musician. Not a good composer, but a great performer ... and unfortunately he stopped evolving really soon in his career. But in the area of neoclassical metal shred he's one of the best. BTW: Listen to him play on the first song of Derek Sherinian - Black Utopia. |

I´m not keen on him as a person though.
I saw a show of his in 2001 where he played the star spangled banner at least ten times to irritate the Brazilian audience. Well there was a lot of booeing and at the end of the show he left the stage saying "God bless America, and f*** you all!"
Some of his best compositions were "Icararus Dream Suite" "Far Beyong the sun" "Crying" "Prelude to April"
All great compositions, but I agree a lot of his stuff is very repetitive. Edited by WaywardSon - July 30 2006 at 10:13 |

His reputation for being difficult and arrogant is legendary. Edited by TheProgtologist - July 30 2006 at 13:28 |

Malmsteen plays some great music. I'm sure he'll be added to the archives sooner or later, like it or not.
