There are a lot of Gillan CD´s on sale at my local CD shop.
They have "Toolbox" and "Accidentally on purpose" (Gover and Gillan) also "Mr Universe" and "Rolling Thunder" Even some of IGB (Ian Gillan Band)
I had "Future Shock" and 'Glory Road" on vinyl (Two great albums)
I still must get "Gillan´s Inn" which features Jeff Healey, Satriani and others.
Which of Gillan´s solo output would you recommend?

Officer GR to the rescue! Wink

I am not familiar with IG's solo output after he dissolved his band Gillan and rejoined Deep Purple for the "Perfect Strangers" LP. However, all of his solo albums before that are quite good. The ones credited to the Ian Gillan Band are more jazz-rock-oriented ("Clear Air Turbulence" is a fantastic track), the ones credited to Gillan are more straightforward, Purple-style hard rock, with the contribution of the criminally underrated Colin Towns on keyboards and Bernie Tormé's wild, Hendrix-like guitar. "Mr Universe" is excellent indeed (and I LOVE "Future Shock"!). "Magic", the album featuring Iron Maiden's Janick Gers in Tormé's place, also contains some very strong tracks: namely, "Bluesy Blue Sea" (also included in "Gillan's Inn", with Janick himself on guitar), and especially the wonderful "Demon Driver".

Thanks GR!<img I forgot I also had "Magic" on vinyl, "Bluesy Blue Sea" is a great song!
I´ve heard a few people say "Toolbox" is very good too. I think I will start with his more rock orientated side in Gillan and then move cautiously into his IGB discography.

I felt 'Glory Road' was the best of the albums he did that I had- closer to the spirit of Deep Purple than what Blackmore was doing in Rainbow at that time yet with increased pyrotechnics due to Bernie Torme's superb guitar work and Colin Towns' fiddly synths. Yet these albums Gillan did around 1979-83 are very hard to find on CD now- remasters were rumoured a while back though.

They are indeed - all you can find now are anthologies or rare live recordings (I got one of Gillan's last concert at the end of 1982). Hopefully there will be some remasters soon!

In Brazil all the old Gillan CD´s are on sale (remastered as well) as are Nazareth, ELP and Uriah Heep. Also a lot of Yes.
On the other hand, all the Iron Maiden and Dream Theater CD´s  cost the Earth!
