The band's self-titled 9th studio album now has a concrete release date as revealed on InsideOut America's website. Check it out, and there's some "cover-art" which looks preliminary, but if it turns out to be that, I won't mind. It's very fitting, I think.

If you go to their official site they have a little more info than InsideOut does:
----------------------------------
September 21, 2006

Hi Everybody,

As you probably know by now, we're calling our 9th studio release simply "Spock's Beard." No big heavy reasoning behind that, really, it just seemed like a cool thing to do. (Of course, you are more than welcome to help us invent some heavy philosophical or hidden meaning so we'll have something interesting to say in interviews... )

There are a few cool song titles that could have become the CD title (see below) but we've done that a lot before. Then there is the obvious "SB9" and it's variations, or the clever play on words thing, like "nein" or "asinine" or something like that.

But, in the end, we decided to just not name it at all. We saved all of our energy for the CD itself. It's going to be one big, fat CD filled to the brim with close to 78 minutes of material.

We're still mixing, so things can change, and things can also change in mastering, but here's a tentative song list:

01. On A Perfect Day - 7:41
02. Skeletons At The Feast (instrumental) - 6:31
03. Is This Love - 2:54
04. All That's Left - 4:41
05. With Your Kiss - 11:31
06. Sometimes They Stay - 4:25
07. Slow Crash Landing Man - 5:45
08. Hearts Of All Men - 5:21
09. Hereafter - 5:00

As Far As The Mind Can See - 17:10
10. part 1 - Dreaming In The Age Of Answers
11. part 2 - Here's A Man
12. part 3 - They Know We Know
13. part 4 - Stream Of Unconsciousness

14. Rearranged - 6:07

The stuff is sounding really, really great. . .Rich is doing an amazing job mixing this CD. What a big job this CD has been, though. Sometimes I think it would have been easier to build a house! But in the end, we'll really have something cool to show for all the creative effort, painstaking work and attention to detail.

We're still looking towards a late November release date. We should be finished mixing and mastering by Sept 28, and then off it goes.

Hopefully we'll have some sound samples up soon so you can actually hear what I'm talking about.

Cheers........Dave.

^^^ thanks for that, Jody; very helpful.

All I can say is that I really hope for their sake that they are able to produce something which will maintain my interest longer then 'Octane' did; a little thematic complexity wouldn't go a miss, so that they can shake off the 'lightweight' tag they seem to be getting, without Neil....

I've got a pointless feeling that this album might be the one where they really start kicking ass. Looking forward to it.

I love the 2 post-Neil albuns, because the band was needing a change. When I listen to Neal solo works I always heard something that I listened before in the SB or Transatlantic albuns, some parts of the music I can even anticipate... and I don't like it!!!Thumbs Down

I just hope that the new album be so good like 'Octane'... and that they finally came with a new DVD after it !!!Wink

Nice to see I'm not the only one who thinks that way.  I shamelessly say that Octane is my favorite SB album, followed closely by V.  They slowly make their own sound instead of borrowing from the prog greats of old, and that, to me, is a sign of true progression.  Can't wait for the new album!

Who wrote the songs? I think that Dave is nowadays the best writer in SB.

Meros ? I agree 100 %  Let's hope he handles most of the composition.  Second best would be Nick, followed closely by Alan and Ryo.

I hope so too. The last two they did were okay, but not terribly interesting. I'll still be getting it, though.

Wow....

My feelings for Feel Euphoria were lukewarm, and I didn't like Octane at all,I pretty much gave up on SB.

But I really like what I heard, they seem to have found a nice balance between the harder rock sound they have adopted and prog.

The tracks Skeletons at the Feast and With Your Kiss was excellent.I didn't listen to the tracks at MySpace but at their site, did any of you notice how good the album sounded from a production standpoint?Superb!!!!

I am actually eagerly looking forward to this release now.

Sounds a bit more progressive, I agree. I think 'Feel Euphoria' was a real mess-hardly prog at all- but 'Octane' was a bit better and more coherent. Hopefully this will be better again.
