A lot of reading Kurt Vonnegut and listening to the excellent lyrics of Pink Floyd (at the time the only band I truly liked), I decided to become a poet.  I wrote a bunch of mediocre poems inspired by Kurt Vonnegut, then wrote a bunch of poems about war (many inspired by Kurt Vonnegut).  I dropped the KV references, and finally made them my own.  From that point, I have been writing poetry.  I have since the beginning cherished the idea of being a lyricist for a prog band (like Sinfield for King Crimson).  I'm still in high school, so it might actually be feasible...  The only problem is that I have no knowledge of music whatsoever.  But I am pretty good at the lyrical part of this thing known as a concept album...

Yes, I am an auspicious poet as well.

I have been writing seriously for a year and a half.

Most of my poetry is despondent reminiscent of Hammill.

Most times I write late at night trying to capture the visions I have experienced in dreams.

I am a published poet (honestly, I have had 1 poem published!).

Also, I write in several styles: Hammillesque, the fancy iambic pentameter stuff, abstract, surreal (that's fun), absurdist, humorous, and standard love poems.

For me, poetry is can only be depressing, humorous poetry is usually hackneyed and contrived.

You need a "yes, and I like Kurt Vonnegut" option.
I occasionally write poetry, although not very good, and I've read almost everything Vonnegut has ever written.

Yeah, I agree. Fun is good sometimes, but generally being depressing is much more satisfying. My latest work, a series of poems against war in general, with references to Iraq and WWII.

Same here (about reading Vonnegut). Sorry about missing that option.

Actually, how do I edit my poll, so that I can fix that?
