I logged on to the Archives today to check out ratings for Roxy Music, only to find, of course, that they aren't here.  Surely they are considered prog.  If Asia, a very pop group with some Roxy associates, is here, why aren't Roxy Music?

Roxy Music were a great band. They were entertaining more than anything else, although the likes of Brian Eno and Phil Manzenera were great musicians with a very original approach to song writing.

Bryan Ferry did audition for King Crimson apparently! Imagine what may have transpired with that lounge lizard singing for KC

A few years back I bought a crap prog compilation from a supermarket - it was going cheap. On it was 'In every dream home a heartache' by Roxy Music, and I remember thinking 'Roxy Music? Prog?. I dont think so'

Its a view I hold to this day...

With you on that Blacksword. I liked these guys but sort of went off them in the later years.

The thought of Ferry being in Crimson would have been an interesting one but I'm not sure if there would have been room for two alpha males in that outfit.

They did go a bit crap didn't they. The 80's had a terrible effect on creativity for many bands. The Roxys went far too smooth and lost all their humour with flacid offerings like 'More than this' and 'Oh Yeah'

They came with some gems in the old days, though like 'Angel Eyes' 'Street Life' and 'Do the strand'  and indeed 'In every dream home a heartache'

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

These discussions are getting pretty tiresome... Couldn't we devote a seperate space on the archives for discussions about adding bands? It'd be nice to log on here once in a while and not see the main discussions page swamped with arguments about whether or not [insert band here] should be listed. Am I the only one getting fed up with this?

IMHO (and not surprisingly) Manzanera always sounded the better musician, with considerable more room to expand on his solo albums.

I agree.  But then again, I'm always fairly open towards new stuff.,......Bah!  I can't think straight, too early in the morning.

I agree in principle, but to be honest I, for one am running out of anything to talk about. Certainly anything that I consider to be worthwhile. If the issue of bands being included in the archives is getting tiresome, then it logically follows that the weekly round of 'Best bass players' 'Best Yes album' 'Phil Collins is a w*nker' discussions are equally tiresome.

We have had a lot of newbies joining this year, and through no fault of their own have repeated things we were discussing a year ago.

The challenge is to find something new to talk about folks! For now I'm stumped..

I guess, Roxy Music is just Progressive Rock band, with some hidden "Progressive" element. They played very especial kind of Progressive, but it was real Progressive, at least at 73-76 albums exactly.

Their 1976 live-album VIVA! ROXY MUSIC is even pure Prog! The same thing I need to say about another excellent experimental album FOR YOUR PLEASURE (1973) - Brian Eno in his best fantasies!

As Bryan Ferry, as Brian Eno are the great persons in Rock Music. BTW, does somebody know that Robert Fripp played on 1994 Ferry's album MAMOUNA?

Roxy Music had another connection to the ELP mix besides Brian wanting to replace Greg in KC...

Davy O'List (the Nice's first guitarist) was also an original member of Roxy Music... but I gather his drug days weren't all behind him.. and he didn't last very long.  However, I think he played on a later Brian Ferry solo album.... However, if you listen to Davy tell the story, he'll say that he was the brain behind the entire thing...

It's a known forum phenomenon Blacksword. It's why most people's active lifespan on a forum is an average eight or nine weeks.

Some people here are bucking that trend in a major way. I think Danbo is top of the posting list with Velvet following on behind but Max (naturally), Dude, Manni and Peter are the longest serving members (I think).
