Let's be fair, there are much less-progressive rock groups listed here than the finnish guys... they started as death metal, they changed, they PROGRESSED.... even in they website they recognize the prog influence!! I would give 20 reasons why they should be here but I'd like to see first what people think about this, (well, first of all, if anyone here KNOWS amorphis)....

Let's be fair.... Styx, Saga (whom i like) prog and ASmorphis not? DEATH is prog and amorphis not???? why, why.... Evergrey prog and amorphis not?? I like all those bands but the finnish are more prog, please...

I think Amorphis was rejected by the Prog Metal band.

Amorphis ... you're right, they progressed from one genre to another, but unfortunately neither of these genres had anything to do with Prog.

This year's album (Eclipse) is interesting though - I enjoy listening to it.Smile

I've heard three albums by this band, and if Elegy is of any indication of their progressive tendencies (the stuff preceeding that and the latest doesn't really qualifiy), then Amorphis are Prog-Related at best.

If you've still got other things to say aside from the invalid argument that they've progressed and the not-too-relevant "they consider themselves prog", I'll gladly take the information into account.

Listen to Tuonela, Am Universum... those two have prog-elements... Hawkwind influences... folk lyrics, ethereal keyboards....

Man, IRON MAIDEN is in the site! DEATH!

Prog-related at least they are.... if only comparing them to some of the "prog-bands" that are listed....

No, long 20+ minute tracks they don't have.... I'm talking about the general sound.

Eclipse is moderately proggy, I'll agree... I'm not sure if it warrants their inclusion on the site mind you, but maybe I just need to hear some of their other recent albums.

Can we stop with the meaningless "If band X gets included, why not band Y?" comparisons?

That;s a good point because if we keep including bands because another one was already included before, we'll end up including Papa roach....

But in this case is fair.... Listen to Tuonela and Am Universum.... Don't focus in their death metal past or their recent flawed album Eclipse.... Listen and agree....

Without commenting should they be in or not: I listened "Am Universum" through, and it had some "psychedelic" or "trance" oriented sounds in it, bringing an association of heavy KINGSTON WALL to my ears. A record recommended for listeing for prog metal fans I believe! Smile

Thanks... That's all it takes... open mind.... then, after hearing, if they are still not-prog, ok, but I hope you'll agree.... I'm not saying they are ultra-prog... but they have prog-elements in their sound, and I think that alone entitles them for the inlcusion...

If you ever agree to include Amorphis, I'll be more than happy to provide with anything needed... from biographies to finnish sandwiches made of cold iciy trout with a delicious lemon/grape gravy....

Nevermind prog or not, I love them and in particular the two albums Tales From The Thousand Lakes and Elegy which has My Kantele in doomdeath and acoustic versions and both are wonderful (my wife particularly likes the acousitc version). I less like their following releases, but still a good band.

Haha... Replace "wife" with "mom" and you have my post, hahaha. Big smile [/micky] I feel like I have the same ears for heavy music as Assaf. Tongue

Sure, I'll check their later stuff out. Since you suggested them, it does seem obvious that you contribute a biography (otherwise, this wouldn't make much sense). But I guess you need at least four of five Prog-Metal team members to agree first, which is not an easy task. WinkTongue

Just a quick note.......

The Prog Metal Team does not place priority on adding Prog Related bands(I personally will NEVER add a band to Prog related).

If other members of the team feel the need to do so,fine. But that is on on individual basis,at the discretion of the Special Collaborators, and will have NOTHING to do with the PMT.

I'm lost.... this looks like politics less than a simple progressive-rock forum!!! man, what a dissapointment.

But I'll keep on writing and posting, anyway it's great to be able to do so.

It has nothing to do with politics.

I just think priority should be placed on the addition of prog metal bands and not bands that have some proggy moments on a couple of albums.

And I like Amorphis.I just don't think they are prog metal. And like I said,I don't concern myself with PR.
