A new comedy drama mini-series starts next Wednesday (26th) on BBC2 called "The Rotters’ Club". Unfortunately, it has no direct relationship with Hatfield and the North, being set in Birmingham in 1974. The story centres on 3 years in the life of a 15 year old boy called Ben Trotter, who tries to form a prog rock band with his friends.

It doesn’t look from the write ups as if the music is central to the plot, but it might be worth watching!

Easy

Re: Rotter's Club

I'm trying to remember where Hatfield & T N took the title from? Was it one of those Terry Thomas movies or the TV series of Billy Bunter ("yer-roo you rotters you".....................and all that)? Any ideas?

Got me scratching my head there Dick (not a wise thing to do in view of my folical challengesLOL!)

Terry Thomas was certainly always cast as a rotter, and must have used the word in countless films, but I can't place the Rotter's Club at all. The sleeve of the H&TN album has what seems to be an unrelated picture of a 40's dressed girl, I don't know if it offers any sort of clue. Even the offcial H&TN website, which explains some of their song and album titles, offers no background to TRC.

I like a challenge though, watch out for a post on this thread in a couple of years when I find out!Confused

After me erroneously thinking it was taken from a book by Jonathan Coe -- and being put right by Man Erg -- (I take it the book must be a recent publication, then?) perhaps it was taken from a club in Liverpool of the same name (see the details below of a live album by CAPTAIN BEEFHEART which mentions said club):

CAPTAIN BEEFHEART & THE MAGIC BAND
Merseytrout Live in Liverpool 1980
Label: Milksafe 4003

Country: UK
Format: CD   Category: STOCK   Price: $20.00
Description:
Most likely an audience recording from the Rotter's Club in Liverpool in October of 1980. Good Stuff nonetheless. Thye band is Eric Drew Feldman, Jeff Moons Tepper, Richard Midnight Hat Size Snyder, and the Cap's manager Gary Lucas joins in on Flavor Bud Living!

Looks promising, doesn't it?
