If you don't have a copy of this...get it a.s.a.p. 
It is an excellent resource for guitar players of all ability levels and who play any style: Rock, Jazz, Blues... (and...no I don't get any commission or anything).

I have this book to and it is indeed a fantastic book. A very, very useful publication for both beginner and pro alike.

Got it! Great book. I've had it for years and still keep going back to it for this and that.

A must have for any guit-dink.

I haven't specifically read a lot of guitar books, but one that I'm very interested in reading and buying is Fretboard Logic SE . I think before most people attempt to play styles of music, one should gain an understand of their instrument and what it's capable of; this can be done by becoming familiar with the fretboard. Although I've only been playing guitar for a year, so what do i know?

The best way of learning styles is to begin with learning scales and chords. Don't just learn them "parrott fashion", learn everything about them, the notes used and the harmonic intervals used.

I have been teaching guitar for 8 years and found this the best way to gain an understanding of the instrument.

Also, use the scales and practise improvising, learning a new technique/riff once a week. Try improvising over different styles, rock, blues, jazz, folk, country, the lot!!!!!!!!!

You will find that doing this will improve your playing/knowledge a hell of a lot.
