Somewhat amateurish and noisy, MOTHERFATHERS play "psychedelic art-punk" as they call it. Their singer is a Jimmy Morrison-wannabee , but that works for him! Music is crunky and wacky, but you may like it. Weird stuff lovers, check them!

Listening now (to myspace samples), and is my usual style, I'll list off fairly early impressions (actually listened to some it before but I didn't know what to say, still don't LOL)...  kinda punk/ shoegaze/ metal garage I guess.  Primus-like at times.  Damn they are sloppy at times.

Anyway, if you're suggesting this for Avant or Eclectic, I don't really see it fitting  either that well. Being wacky isn't enough for avant of course (in fact it's not necessary at all). I mean sure it has the avant punk element that some avant bands here, but it doesn't seem so experimental to me as, say, The Residents, Boredoms, or Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, but that's a  really weak thing for me to say.  My avant experiences tend to be more of the RIO influenced jazzy variety, and of course I can't speak for ZART (though this band has some jazz element too), so never mind me.

It certainly is eclectic music, but not right for Eclectic in my opinion.

Thanks, this helped expand my musical horizons.  Listened again.

be interested to hear what other people think.

thanks for checking

to be fairly honest, I don't think MOTHERFATHERS (just check their name ) are willing to do anything SERIOUS musically. It's fun, it's good because it's fun but I doubt it can be seriously considered by Eclectic/Avant music fans, so your reaction is more than predictable...but I feel the same way towards them . They were/are an Indie band and decided to have some fun with influences they have always had [IMHO]. Prog-Related then maybe?

I'll check too for Eclectic, just to have a solid vote on it. Wink

I received their album as a promo cd and I think they may fit fine in avant-rock. But give me some more time with it.
