Topic: The Fall of Troy, thoughts? Posted: January 04 2008 at 11:58 |
I think they are more than worthy of being included in The prog archives. Thomas Erak's has an awkward Hammer-On Pull-off playing style that is very unique and is really a breath of fresh air. They combine elements of post-hardcore and Math Rock by use of heavy dissonance with melodic vocals and Shrill screaming. They have conceptual themes as relevant in their "ghost Ship" recordings. I recommend the tracks F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X. , Cut down all the trees and name the streets after them, sledgehammer and Semi-Fiction. Thoughts ?

I think they are insufferable. The music is good (though I really don't consider it a breath of fresh air), however, the vocals are unbearable.
That having been said, they certainly have a prog side to their music. However, there are still more deserving bands out there that aren't here yet. And I think there was talk of them a few months ago - don't remember much beyond that though.

They have some tight instrumental work, but they still sound to me like a watered-down version of At The Drive In.
Still, F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X. is a blast on Guitar Hero

Watered-down? You serious? I mean his Thomas's syle is certainly similar to Omar's but they sound nothing alike tell me how a song like Whacko Jacko Steals the elephant sounds like chanbara. c'mon tell me. Tell me.

I should have been more specific, I think. Honestly FCPREMIX is the only song of theirs I think I've heard, and I do like it... I'm just still trying to make up my mind as far as the "progressivity" or whatever. I'll need to check out the rest of the album.
But, if that single song is any indicator of the rest of their material, I'm not a big fan of the vocals. Then again I'm sort of nit-picky about certain types of vocals that ruin good instrumental work IMO... in this case the modern melodic rock vocal (aka 'emo') mixed in with half-hearted hardcore screams.

I think that they do have the potential to be here. What genre do you think they should be in?
