The latest Classic Rock Magazine has a free CD called "Prog spawn (brain melting new prog from both sides of the pond)".

About half the bands on it are listed on this site including Mystery, The Pineapple Thief, Mostly Autumn and No Man, so their definition of prog may be a bit imaginative.

The magazine has articles on Rush (again!) and Uriah Heep among others.

Their prog definition may be a bit imaginative because of the (roughly) half of the bands we have on the site that are included on the CD, or because of the other half that are not on the site? Wink

I wonder how many not on the site were proposed and rejected, how many were never proposed, and how many were proposed but escaped evaluation and how many were accepted but just just haven't been added yet?

I found the track list for Prog Spawn.  It sounds like a horror movie:  Behold the horror of Geddy Lee and Steve Howe's love-child!   Sorry, couldn't resist.

Travel To The Night - Mystery
Summer's Lease - Big Big Train
Tightly Wound - The Pineapple Thief
Web - Odin Dragonfly
True North - No-Man
Apocalypstick - Panic Room
Tearing At The Faerytale - Mostly Autumn
Shadow - Touchstone
Meadowland - The Treat
Don't Turn A Blind Eye - Breathing Space
Lost In Play - Manning
Too Late... - Credo

Hmm... sort of proggy music intended particularly for non-proggers, methinks (not for those into more experimental progressive music but more for mainstreamish listeners).

Their prog definition may be be imaginative, but their article topics aren't LOL (Rush.. again... to be expected in a classic rock magazine).
Just a fanboy passin' through.

I think if they put the next free prog rock CD with the Mail on Sunday that would be great.

There is some good stuff there - nice to see the excellent Guy Manning getting some exposure.

Heather Findlay for FHM? I guess you have to wait for that a little longer (after her baby has been born)

CRM must be very good friends with the members of Mostly Autumn, as they include Mostly Autumn AND Odin Dragonfly AND Breathing Space AND Panic Room on the CD! (But no way that I'm going to complain about that!Thumbs%20UpClapWink)

Never heard of any of those artists. Could be worth a listen. I enjoyed the prog stuff on the free CD from Mojo mag recently, and the Syd Barrett influence era CD from Uncut was great.

It seems like they do a Prog special every summer. I'll look out for that one in the shops. Thanks.
