All have their different flavor.

Romero - a clown. Nobody would take him seriously. But his Joker has some special magic.

Nicholson - a psycho-clown. Or, in  a word: Jack Nicholson playing himself with makeup.

Ledger - a psycho. Brilliant. Pure evil and madness, with just a hint of clowniness. Obscure and realistic  (as realistic as a Joker character can be anyway).

Vote. or die.

For me, Ledger is the ultimate Joker.  A towering performance that manages to make Nicholson's masterful one look rather cartoonish.

haven't seen DK yet but I have no doubt as to the quality of Ledger's performance..  I give credit to Nicholson's Joker for being closest to the one in the comix, and the cartoonish quality largely Burton's hand

Ledger kicked a ton of ass... a TON!

But!!! I will never get over Nicholson, namely because he's one of my very favorite actors and I grew up with that Batman movie. For me there's no other joker.

That said - I think Ledger made an amazing contemporary Joker - very twisted, I loved it!

Why so serious?

Even though Nicholson is my favorite actor, Ledger´s Joker is... brilliant! I can´t not vote for him

Ledger. I'm a big fan of Nicholson, but this time there's not much contest.

Insane Clown Posse - The Great Milenko.

Definitely the best of the Joker cards.

The new movie as a whole was severely overrated, and continues to be. There, I said it.

Romero was camp & clownish, but managed sinister & slightly disturbing at the same time, I agree Jack Nicholson effectively played himself with makeup, but I think he handled it brilliantly...

...however, having read this thread through & also the dedicated 'Dark Knight' thread in DNRTM, I think I need to see the new movie - I saw 'Batman Begins' on the plane a couple of weeks ago & was favourably impressed (especially by Michael Caine), so I think this one has to be a must see.

It really depends what you are looking for.

If you like to think of the joker as an totally unscrupulous, wickedly creepy, complete lunatic...Ledger wins HANDS DOWN.

If you like a little more fun and not so serious all the time in your joker Jack takes the cake.

I think Ledger had the better acting performance so I'll vote for him on that basis alone.

Ledger. He had Batman beat in this film and convincingly so (rather than looking contrived as it could have been in a film) but didnt kill him as he knew there would be nothing left for him.

Ledger obviously. Nicholson sucked. So did that guy from the old 60s series. The cartoon one worked because it was the joker, but I feel the argument here lies with the human players.

even though I think TDK is hideously overrated, ledger had the obvious best joker. His performance was great, even though the movie itself was rather weak, in my opinion.
I'm a reasonable man, get off my case
