I guess Portnoy will be there anyway because he's sitting in with Neal's band?

^ Not sure that is true.  Neal is playing California a week or after this festival and not sure MP is in the band.

YES!!!! I was originally going to see Yes, but Anderson had an asthma attack, and so I booked the 3rp festival to see Spock's Beard instead. Then they announced that Neal Morse would be there AND NOW TRANSATLANTIC!!!!!! At this point I'm thinking that John's asthma attack was fate...Smile

Is there any chance that this show will get recorded so it will be available for those of us that would love to be there but are unable to make it?

Beats me, I'm thinking there's a good chance with the Transatlantic reunion, not to mention the potential for Neal to do a few songs with the bearded ones.  I've sent an e-mail asking just that...doesn't hurt to ask, huh?

OK, Here's my brief post from the Progfest, more later:

Day 1, The Beard was fantastic.  They did about a two hour set with a triple drum solo, a Ryo solo, Japanese Karaoke (with all of the limitations that a broken jaw imply).  Musical highlights included 'She is Everything', 'Cakewalk on Easy Street' and a huge finale with 'The Great Nothing'.  Then they did an encore.
Neal Morse played 'The Light' with the boys from the Beard.  It was amazing to watch, I of course had goosebumps when Neal screamed out the catfish line.

Met a great guy named Bob, between sets, swapped Prius stories.

Neal did a great set, though unfortunately, some of the energy was diminished due to the hour of the night.  He played the two epics from Sola Scriptura in an unfortunately abbreviated set.

I had the opportunity to shake the hand of Dave Meros on the way out.  Exciting stuff.

We're headed back over now for day two.

Allow me to expand on what Roland said.

I believe that the reason why there wasn't too much energy for Neal Morse was that far fewer people there actually liked his solo work. I found it to be extremely boring and one of the guys I was talking to said he started to think about work while Neal was playing as some indication of the overall feeling of the audience. I fought the temptation to leave solely with the rumor of a Transatlanic mini-reunion. And boy, was I ecstatic I stayed.

After Neal finished his set his band left the stage then reemerged with Neal playing a little ditty on his guitar. Then Roine came on stage and they started playing "We All Need Some Light." It was a fantastic performance. Mike Portnoy came out after that to much applause and everyone got on their feet for "Stranger in Your Soul." All of Neal's band played on this song except the drummer . Needless to say everyone played their hearts out for a Transatlantic reunion for the ages.

*sigh*

To further the notion, I unfortunately did not fight the urge to leave.  Neal kept talking about cutting his set short, and the guys behind me kept mentioning how there was an ordinance that the show was going to have to shut down at midnight.  When he got to 'a couple of songs from the Testimony album' I saved my wife who was literally falling asleep and we left to beat the traffic.

Let's face it, had we left with everybody else...there wasn't going to be a lot of traffic.

and I knew that there was going to be a Transatlantic reunion as well, I figured they'd do it on Sunday.

I found out Sunday that we had missed an hour and a half of music and I'm still kicking myself.

Gah...

It was my own dumb fault.

Moving on...

Sunday was great.

We got there in time for 'The Rocket Scientists' missing IZZ, much to my chagrin.  The Rocket Scientists were fantastic, I absolutely loved the keyboard player's rig.  The sounds were fantastic.

The California Guitar Trio was musically fantastic, though I'm not sure that I would have put them in that slot, once again, a lot of the energy seemed to be lost as the trio played.  They were wonderful to listen to, though possibly more appropriate for a dinner setting.

Finally, The Flower Kings closed out the festival in amazing fashion.  The stuff from the new album really grew on me and of course the old stuff was great as well.

I'm still kicking myself,

Tom
