While citing a plethora of influences, to my ignorant, untrained ears the biggest influences I hear are Mr. Bungle and John Zorn, mainly ala Naked City.  The music often very bizarre, blending pop, jazz, and even touches of grindcore with metal; the vocals are very Pattonesque.  It's Jazz metal, but not typical; instead of having influences from "traditional" jazz or jazz fusion, they are heavily influenced by the spasmadic and crazy John Zorn brand of jazz.

I'm not sure where, exactly; it doesn't really belong in any other genre of metal than Experimental, but I think it's influences and styles warrant it's inclusion to RIO/Avant Prog.

What'cha think?

I'm disappointed - neither of these players are avant-garde!

Al di Meola.

Good stuff.  This could go in a number of places.  It's a little avant-lite for me in avant-prog.. I'd mention jazz-fusion as a further possibility, and Eclectic Prog.

Andrew: I've passed it on to the avant team for their thoughts.  A well-expressed initial post, by the way. Very good band.  I'm going to take a listen again, more for my own enjoyment, when I have little distraction.  Kids.... (edit: the "Kids...." could be ambiguous. I'm not kidding, I have kids that are a distraction --- that makes me sound like a less than attentive father).

EDIT: I initially passed it on to the Eclectic team for opinions, and two of us have said that we're fine with it in Eclectic.  Would you be willing to write the biography, and hopefully, fill out the album info too?

Heh, thanks.  Got them from a recomendation for "Estradasphere brand Jazz-Metal"; after hearing them, it's obvious that they're more influenced by Bungle and Zorn, but I love 'em anyways.

I had to laugh at the kids part, I'm not father but I've certainly lived with young siblings.

I'll give it a shot -- I still have to write Apkphaezya's bio, too. Wink
