Before submitting an official request for the addition of the keyboard-driven instrumental group Booker T & the MGs to Proto Prog, I would like to get a general feel of how PA members look at this band.

Released in 1962, "Green Onions" is easily 5 years ahead of similar stuff made by Procol Harum and others. "Hang 'em high" and "Over Easy" both from '68 are other fine examples of their progressive leanings.

great group.... but don't see them fitting in proto-prog what you are referring to ...would be classified here as ...

proto-prog related.

An interesting nomination. My initial personal reaction was that they are worthy of an entry. I'll need to dig some of their stuff out again though.

They might be 5 years ahead of Procol Harum, but IMO, Procol Harum only just squeeze into Proto Prog.

They were an influence alright - especially on the likes of Brian Auger - but that again underlines their influence on Proto Prog, not Prog per se.

An interesting consideration, though. The influence of Soul on Rock music in the mid 1960s (and Prog) shouldn't be overlooked.

It'll be Jimmy Smith next Wink
