Rata Blanca are a well known Hard Rock/Semi-Metal band from Argentina. They are heavily influenced by Deep Purple, Rainbow and Whitesnake(Rata Blanca means WhiteRAT, get it?)

I'm no fan of them, but they can surely rock and they surely esemble Prog characteristics as Deep Purple with MK 2 or Rainbow(Dio). I think they resemble some Metal bands too, but I don't know about them, since I don't like Metal. Maybe some Iron Maiden, I THINK..

Some samples, sorry they're quite short:

Press MULTIMEDIA, then below ALBUMS, and in the albums covers press for samples of each.

Hola Pablo

Here in Mexico Rata Blanca are often compared with Mago de Oz, probably due to the vocals style and some songs that are performed by both bands.

Anyway i believe that Mago de Oz have a more varied sound and a unique metal-folk style that can fit in here without problems, on the other hand i think rata Blanca doesn't, despite they too have as you said been influenced by Purple or Rainbow among others, i thibk their music is simpler and i personally would not call them a prog one.

They have a couple of proggish songs, prog related would be the only category, but i am not entirely sure.

^as the title of thread says, "Rata Blanca for Prog RELATED". I never said they were Prog. They're just RELATED.

Anyways, thanks for posting your thoughts. I still need to hear Mago de Oz.

I'd agree with "memo" here and definitely you should try Mago De Oz specially Gaia or Finisterra.Wink
