Oh, about that.... It's just that I listen to much more music in my room, and not on the computer, so....

Anyways, I will rate some new stuff!

EDIT:
Also the fact that it doesn't view very well now in my computer, really doesn't make me go, since it's quite bothering.... Do you think it's because of Windows 98? or my browser?

Lol it's not the 90s anymore.
I didn't know anyone still used Windows 98, wow, I sent my copy to the museum personally :)

^ that's a little bit unfair to people in poorer countries who may not be able to afford new hardware. Having said that: If you have the opportunity to upgrade you should definitely do so ... you'll find that many websites load much faster if you use a half way decent rig with current browser software (perfect examples would be last.fm, myspace.com and progfreak.comWink).

For some of my fellow countrymen it might stand for (the late) Pim Fortuyn, but I'd rather stick with Pink Floyd.

It's a pretty cool website. I find some of the options like "prog by style" tags to be a bit unnecessary, but since people use them, I can't criticize them.

It's still a very creative site and works very well on being accurate on how good/bad an album and its tracks are.

A suggestion is bring an option like a 'tilt', where after reviewing each separate track, you want the overall rating to be higher/lower than the tracks combined. Maybe there's an absolute masterpiece of 35 min and a poor track of 5 min, and your average would suffer when you can just ignore that 5min track.

Thanks for the feedback. I know what you mean in that last paragraph ... let me say just two things about it:

- you can submit an album rating on top of the track ratings to raise the album average
- the track length is used as a factor in the calculation of the album average from the track ratings, so a 5 minute track will have very little weight compared to a 35 minute track.

One weird thing...

Close to the Edge averages only an 8 on the Prog-by-Style scale. If Close to the Edge isn't the most prog-by-Style album then I don't know what is. Relayer gets a 10 on both accounts, though I think the album is slightly less prog-by-style, since "Sound Chaser" is really jazzy and "To Be Over" while having a lengthy prog structure really doesn't sound like prog (IMO).Confused

^ that's because most users don't fine tune their tag assignments ... I'm still not sure how to combat that. One possibility would be to introduce a (very simplistic) voting system on the tag assigments themselves. Or rather, make it a system to rate the skill/experience of certain users for certain tags, like saying "I trust user xyz completely when it comes to prog-by-style", or "I don't trust user xyz at all when it comes to prog-by-style".

As a starting point the system could lessen the weight of tag assignments as long as the user only assigned a low number of them, or if the user doesn't vary the level at all.

^Or maybe you should make it so if they don't decide to change the prog-by-style or prog-by-approachness that the default 6 that they give it shouldn't even be accounted for. For example, if 10 people rate and tag an album but don't rate how proggy the album is, the album will remain a 6, but once one person tags it, say a 10, the album will automatically change to a 10, since the automatic sixes will be disregarded and will not be accounted for in the average. Sorry if it sounds confusing.

I also think the automatic 6 can make things confusing sometimes when trying to differentiate between style and approach. For example, look at the Spock's beard page:

I personally feel that they are prog-by-style, but very low on approach, and I know that there are many members that agree with me. However for most of their career according to PF their approach and style are at the same level. I think it has something to do with the averaging with the sixes.

A website that is slow to navigate on, where no matter how many times I put my password, next time I try to login I have to put it in again.... A webiste that is an excellent idea but that could have a lot of improvements in design...Wink

But a great help for this website... At least the progmetal team would be lost without it

I've used it as ProgFreak around here, but at school me and some of my friends use the abbreviation PF for something entirely different. Basically when we flip someone off in our pockets (Pocket Finger), we call it PFTongue
