I have spent a lot of this evening watching Live 8. My abiding memory (apart from the real message of the day) will be of staggering musical mediocrity. Razorlight, The Killers and God knows how many other untalented bands came and went. Then on strode Pink Floyd. They could play, sing and write great songs. They flew the flag for prog and they flew it brilliantly; they reminded me why prog is, well - simply the best!

...well said. The closest I came to being entertained with the other acts was Linkin Park coupled with Jay Z....not that I can stand their music, but I appreciated the energy and enthusiasm that was given in their performance.

I thought most acts were very good.......but Robbie Williams is way over-rated.If he was on in my local club they'd pay him up early........

I agree. The vast majority of the acts imo were good. Most were not my "cup of tea",and on any other day I would not go out of my way to watch or listen to them, but at least we were spared the conveyer belt manufactured type tripe. BTW I thought Floyd were magnificent and there seemed a special electricity between them, maybe static at first but to me they seemed to warm to one another through the performance.

Elton John wasn't bad, Razorlight was pretty good, but most other acts were crap. Floyd was one of the most amazing and most emotional things I have ever seen. They really showed the youngins how to do it right. It's amazing that the old rockers, in their 60s, can still completely and utterly shame the energetic and virile 20-year-olds.
The crux of the biscuit is the apostrophe.

I didn't catch Deep Purple, actually. I'm kind of pissed off about that.

Stevie Wonder was great, too. How is it physically possible for someone nearing his 60s to have a voice like that? I don't get it.

I was surprised how perfunctory Sting's performance was. Bit of a shame IMO, as I was really looking forward to his section of the evening.

Still, the Pink Floyd made up for that in a big way. I sat enthralled for all four songs as I knew that was probably the one and only time we'll ever get to see them play together.

I was very impressed by the whole day, and enjoyed most performances. I surprised myself by watching the whole thing!!

I only muted sound/changed channel when Mariah Carey and Velvet Revolver were on. I thought everything else was pretty good. I thought Sting was good - glad he done 'Message in a bottle'  - Coldplay were ok. The Killers, Razorlight and Scissor Sisters + REM were all very good.

The Who sounded great and Floyd were fantastic.

Good day.

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

The Who and Pink Floyd have stolen the show...Both excellent...Amazing performance...Indeed,thank God for Pink Floyd and the extrordinary music they created...

I can still hardly find any flaw in their music...Maybe The Final Cut,but that is all...

God, that Pink Floyd performance was amazing. I just couldn't beleive that waters was there, still can't, hasn't yet. And further more, that performance was great, they sound great.

I can't beleive they did anything from the Wall. But Comfortably numb is my all-time favorite song, not just by pink floyd. It's a real treat for me. But in that show I would most like to have been in london for Wish You were Here, at club cover up bands people sing that last verse in unison is so touching,made me cry one...  imagine over 1 million.

Well, I guess all I can say is Roger Water's was finally "Home, home again..."

Rest in Peice Roger Waters' voice.

The performance was superb, however, Roger has lost his voice. He now sounds like an old man (yes yes I know he is). Compare him now to how he sounded on The Wall. It used to be hard to tell that Gilmour sung the chorus on Comfortably Numb (for a long time, I thought Waters did it). Now it's f**king obvious.

I'd love to see Floyd Live. However, it'd break my heart to hear Waters do the vocals.

The Floyd were absolutely the highlight of the day. I wouldn't have missed their performance for the world! The Who were great too. The opening with Macca and U2 gave me goosepimpels. Sting was OK, good of him to perform only Police songs! Cold Play and Keane, two of my favourite contemporary bands were alright, although their performances were relatively short. And last but not least REM. Only, why the blue band on Stipe's face? Made him look like a faggot Zorro without a cape! Overall is was a memorable day!
