Uli Jon Roth is amazing guitarist......Could have been huge had he not gone that transcendental/mystifying/spacey road he took after leaving the Scorps.
Those early Scorps albums are brilliant due to his playing.
But for me Michael Schenker is a master.....PERIOD!

Hey-ho a two year old thread, sorry I missed it -
Schenker's brilliant but Uli is, in the words of my youth, 'God'. So who loves those early Electric Sun albums? What about his later Sky Guitar stuff? If you play guitar you probably know what he does is almost physically impossible, e.g. anything on the Firewind album. It would not be an exaggeration to estimate him the finest guitarist in the world, or put another way he makes DiMeola look like Mr. Rogers.

A very difficult comparison since I love listening to both, but I think Roth was more adventurous, more eclectic. Schenker Jr didn't help his own cause by joining UFO which was a pretty solid band but fairly predictable and straight up. Roth could really bare his feelings on a song like Crying Days while Schenker's slow leads on Love to Love only suggested tantalising potential rather than amounting to a truly epic solo (though the coda IS epic). Roth for me.

^ Yep, and a good point I forgot to mention: Uli has all kinds of feeling and musicality.

I have never really paid much attention to his post-Scorpions work. Your comment was intriguing, I should check it out sometime. Nevertheless, I do agree that he is kind of underappreciated.
