I was so close to finally seeing Anekdoten. This sucks but the tickets just weren't selling sadly.

I need to clean my glasses, I read it as "Fartfest". Embarrassed

Hey, mebbee if they had added fart performances...

I have to say, I'm a bit jealous of people who live near prog music fest locations, sad news.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Always sad to see prog festivals cancelled from lack of interest.  It's hard work getting those things together.

Wow, that was one strong line up, I'm surprised at the lack of interest in it.

I'm not. The bands may be good, but most of the bands are not among the most popular acts in progressive rock.

For most of those bands,it must have been the last chance for seeing them live....or ALIVE,for that matter, considering their age.

Such a shame. I'm glad Greg tried it though.

This is pretty terrible! I was really looking forward to this. Guess its time to cancel hotel reservations...

Anyone know if the bands will be playing anywhere else in the US?

Pity....I've always had a dream to attempt to organize one of these in Chicago, since we have a strong local prog/jazz music base with folks like Fareed Haque, Chris Siebold, David Onderdonk, Fr. John Moulder and others!

We also get acts large & small...Daryl Stuermer Band was in the area twice this summer for free shows at festivals!   Greg Lake (I did say "large acts"), Jon Anderson, and many others have been through in the past year.

However, seeing that many of these "prog fests" have been cancelled makes me pretty nervous to even fantasize about it anymore.

There is one!  Are you aware of ProgNight on October 12 in St. Charles? Neal Morse (w/Portnoy), Three Friends and District 97. Here's the thread on PA: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=86974

I wonder if it was the price of the tickets.  These were great bands, but they were cult acts.

For instance, the italian bands were great, but they are not big names like PFM, Le Orme etc

I think the ticket prices were very reasonable.

For me, there were two main things that hindered it. Legnth of festival, and the final Nearfest. From what I"ve seen most people dont have all that much spare time and money to go to festivals and the final Nearfest was obviously moved to the front of the line which prevents some people from going (aside from the hardcore fans of the group/type). It's a shame that a) Nearfest failed last year and made this their final year and b) that Farfest was pushed to this year. And a four day festival means alot of time off from work/hotel etc expenditures. Persobally I like a longer festival but totally understand that shorter is easier for everyone.

Hopefully they'll try again in the near future but I'll understand if they don't.

4 day festival ! holy cow you don't even see that with the big boys 1-3 max is the rule anymore and even the 3 day'ers have a hard time selling out .
1 day or just 2 nights would be a good manageable timeframe

In this day and age of little money, lotsa time working for it, me, you and others budgeting their daily life, Promoters are hard pressed to find ways to put on a profitable gig.as much as they want to promote great music and or make $.
Being in this business, I know first hand the great logistics and time $ spent on advancing everything. So to see small to medium fests die off is not a surprise.

As stated before 1 day or 2 nights in a venue works, anything bigger then you better have corporate sponsorship and backing.
