DISTANT PAST was founded by Adriano Troiano in 2002. Together with guitarists Alain Curty and Christof Schafer he works in his rare spare time in his home studio on songs that will appear as albums at some point. The singer on "Utopia Void " is former Emerald singer Jvo Julmy, with his unique voice and melodic oriented songs with some Progressive elements as well as Thrash Metal Influences. Members: Adriano Troiano (Bass, Keyboards), Alain Curty (Guitar), Christof Schafer (Guitars), Geri Baeriswyl(Drums), Jvo Julmy (Vocals) CD comes with a stunning artwork by polnish artits Tomasz Marons; 16-page booklet with full artwork spread out . Includes unlimited streaming of Utopian Void via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more. "Musically, it's flawless: Julmy's vocals are rich and resonant, soaring with the grace of an eagle over the solid rhythms of drummers Al Spicher and Jan Zweibel and bassist Adriano Troiano, who has a style which is very much akin to that of Steve Harris! The twin guitarists of Alain Curty and Christof Schafer are as effective as any operating in this style of music, switching neatly between crunching riffs and massive melodies, with some pretty impressive solos thrown along the way." released 01 January 2014 12 Songs – app. 60 minutes of music recorded 2010 - 2012 @ KAYFABEstudios, Switzerland mixed and mastered by V.O. Pulver @ Little Creek Studios in April 2013, Switzerland personnel: Jvo Julmy – Vocals Adriano Troiano – Bass & Keyboards Christoph Schafer – Guitar on Tracks 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9 Alain Curty – Guitar on Tracks 3, 6, 8, 10 Al Spicher – Drums on Tracks 1, 7 Andy Bächler – Drums on Tracks 2, 3, 6, 10 “The Onion”– Drums on Tracks 4, 5, 8, 9 Cornelia Curty – Violin on Track 8 David Luterbacher – Guest Guitar Solo on Track 3 Edited by Svetonio - September 01 2014 at 03:26 |

'Utopian Void' is the band's fourth release, and sounds rather too much like Iron Maiden to my ears to stand much chance of surviving the PA blacksmiths' anvil, I fear. Previous releases were: Science Reality (2003) Extraordinairy Indication of Unnatural Perception (2005) Alpha Draconis (2010) A review of 'Alpha Draconis' can be found at http://www.metal-temple.com/site/catalogues/entry/reviews/cd_3/d_2/distant_past_-_alpha.htm, and it can be listened to at the band's myspace: https://myspace.com/atdistantpast/music/songs. MMA have the band listed under Traditional Heavy Metal, and I wouldn't argue with that tbf: http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/artist/distant-past - our Crossover team leader Kev Rowland reviewed 'Utopian Void' on there: http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/album/distant-past/utopian-void. Good stuff indeed for a headbanging session, but I can't really see these guys finding a home on PA anytime soon.
