When I was a teen Burning Rope used to suprise me the most from ATTWT, mainly that long instrumental section. Nowadays it strangely doesn't move me the same way even though I keep liking it.

Today Deep In The Motherlode is my favourite, it's such an amazing song really, the same love yesterday and today...

Burning Rope--a song that would have been made a classic if Hackett had been in the group.Smile

I like "the lady lies" better than either one but that's just me. I voted for "burning rope." This is probably the most under rated Genesis album. Some of the hardcore prog fans complain that it's mostly short songs but most of Lamb is mostly shorter songs too.

and didn't Banks also plan for it to be longer initially?

anyway I voted for Deep In The Motherlode. Is there a better example of how to make a perfect prog track that is only 4 minutes ish long?

good point but of course Lamb has an obscure concept that no one understands so is obviously superiorWink

Well I had to think about it as I like them both a lot but after careful scrutiny I've gone for Burning Rope.  If it had been 'Down and Out' then that would have been another matter...

Anyway that's a lode off my mind...Wink

Burning Rope (oh, how big was Phil's drum set-up around this time ?!!). Never have liked Motherlode, one of my least fave on the album.

But at least, LLDOB had Steve Hackett playing on the album.

Burning Rope gets the vote. Motherlode is also excellent.

ATTWT is, dare I say it, a very underated album. Down & Out is my favourite song from the album.

it feels like a very 'keyboardy' album though. I tend to think Hackett's finest work with Genesis was on the two earlier albums.

Incredibly underrated. The period from Trick to this one was amazing. My favorite three by the band. I love the Gabriel stuff but Genesis was never better from 75-78.

I agree. Trick to ATTWT (including Seconds Out) was the best era of the band overall imo. Best musicianship, best production, best live performances.

I would have loved for Hackett to have stuck around for another album. An album fusing the best elements of WAW and ATTWT would have potentially topped Trick for me.

^Hey right on good call, 'Down and Out' is excellent too and no other could fit better as the opening track of ATTWT, and what a great Banks' work at the final part of it. And I'm being convinced here to buy ATTWT again Tongue, it was the very first Genesis album I knew, the very first I learned to love and the one I most listened to those great melodies ('many too many' times) during those 'golden years'...

this is how I feel---lacks a forth player--playing amazing guitar---put Hackett in there, take that Nemo and Joe song off and add two Hackett songs you have another great album to finish the trilogy of Trick, W&WWink

It is an underated album, especially by Genesis fans. I rank it up there with Dark Side of the Moon, OK Computer and You all Look the same to me

Collins voice is so sweet on most of the songs it puts other vocalists to shame. Rutherford takes the role of Hackett and exaggerates his soaring electric guitar sound.

This would have been some album if Hackett had put his classical mark on it.

Deep In The Motherlode is one of the best trio Genesis songs. Burning Rope just doesn't do it for me.

My 2 cents on the album is what a disappointment as a whole. Some material is worthwhile, while others feel like filler--a first on a Genesis single disc, but unfortunately not the last by a long shot.

Being a vinyl obsessive, I have a 7" of Many Too Many..... The other side has The Day The Light Went Out and also Vancouver. Two 3 minute tunes that certainly fit on ATTWT, for sure. Such a great album, really.....

Follow You Follow Me was the first Genesis song I ever heard, but this album does have some rather cheesy songs.  Genesis was finding their path to pop success.  It's amongst the later Genesis albums that I still like after all these years.

I've always dug ATTWT - it sounds like no other Genesis album.....one foot quickly leaving the past and one bolting for the future.  I'd say I've played it more than any other post-Gabriel album over the years.....maybe due to burn out of W&W as a kid and never really being bowled over by Trick.

Undertow is probably my favorite Banks track in the Genesis catalog.  Burning Rope and the Ballad of Big are some of the last true prog An underrated album (wouldn't call it a classic, rather an overlooked gem....but I know many Genesis fans who don't even own it).
