Been really getting into both of them recently. Kate's had some incredible songs, especially on the first 4 or 5 albums, but I'll have to go for Peter. His stuff is much more complete and just right up my street to be honest, plus some killer songs (mainly from "Melt" and "So"). Thanks for any feedback

good poll. Unlike most it seems, it is a hard choice. If not for Raff I would have voted for P.G as I love his solo stuff but one of the many fringe benefits of getting my hands on Raff's album collection is gaining a deep appreciation for the music of Kate Bush. I really didn't know her music too well prior to that. I have come to really love it. Another vote for Kate. I like PG solo much more than when he was with Genesis, but his output is a bit uneven if compared with Kate's - and he also hasn't released any new material for far too long. |

Even on his first four albums (which are the only ones I care about) Peter Gabriel is hit or miss artist out of these two for me. Love everything on Kate's five first LP's including all of Lionheart which I know is considered a failure of sorts (with a reputation among fans not unlike KC's In The Wake of Poseidon). Imo her albums get patchier after Hounds of Love but never completely uninteresting. -------------

Gabriel's "melt" album may be my fav release out of either artist, but The Dreaming is close, and Kate is more consistently entertaining to my ears, so Kate it is. |

Similar views here. Another thing: strangely, Gabriel the singer kind of disappears on his solo albums. It's as if he was rather anxious to bring out his songwriting facet. Or maybe it's just the contrast between his solo work and the more theatrical, dramatic Genesis albums that he was a part of. Anyhow, Kate Bush actually brought some, probably a lot, of that dramatism to her solo albums while still staying in step with the changes going in music at that time. I too especially love her first few albums. Lionheart may be patchy, but it's still excellent, if people would just forget it's sandwiched between Kick Inside and Never for Ever.

Gabriel without any doubt. Kate is great but in fact her late records (Aerial and on) seem to me rather unispiring or liveless even maybe boring. On her earlier works I've never got such feeling... And even as solo PG is not so great from time to time, he would get my vote only for UP alone... (not to mention Genesis as it doesn't belong to this poll). -------------
