I left out some of the later albums (he made so much...), but I suppose most of the most important albums are there.
I viewed Wings as solo stuff...
Which is your favorite?

I pick Ram as my favorite, second maybe McCartney but it's hard to pick second favorite's etc. He has released great albums, I even really like some (considering I did not particularly pay very much attention to most) more than I did previously. Hug

I have to go with BotR as it was virtually a McCartney solo album with Paul playing all the drums, keyboards and lead guitar parts as his lead guitarist and drummer banged off just prior to Wings flying to Lagos, Nigeria to record the album. The brilliant Geoff Emerick picked up his third engineering Grammy for BotR and that was no small feat recording this album in less than ideal conditions with used and out of date recording equipment. And McCartney never made an album this good again.

Band on the Run > Ram > McCartney > everything else

Ram is my longtime favorite, followed by BotR. Love "Too Many People" in particular.

I actually have a soft spot for Red Rose Speedway even though it's got some really oddball tunes. I noticed that "Little Lamb Dragonfly" sounds like some reinterpretation of "Hey Jude" after playing the album recently (hadn't listened to it in eons). Venus & Mars has some decent stuff as does McCartney. Wings At The Speed Of Sound is pretty terrible, but "Let Em In", though dopey, was catchy and "The Note You Never Wrote" (sung by Denny Laine) I always thought was pretty cool and the only real good song off it...pretty trippy tune. Never heard the others except for the hits.

Band on the Run followed closely by Ram, then Venus & Mars. I enjoy everything he did in the 70s and early 80s.

After revisiting both Ram and BotR in the past couple of years, it struck me that Ram has got more songs that stand up better than those on BotR.

"The Back Seat of my Car" struck me the most after not listening to Ram for some 40 years (! Yikes how old am I?) Revisit this song yourself...play it loud...you'll see what I mean (I hope).

Band On The Run, Pipes Of Peace, Tug Of War would be his Top 3 (in my book) .. voted for the Pipes, because nobody had done it yet Star

Well, that's the rumour on the street.
They say he got an argument with the other Beatles.
They weren't being called the Quarrelmen for nothing, you know.

Hey, I get the impression that some albums are being listened to a lot (Ram, BotR, and maybe some others of the Wings era, and then maybe Tug Of War/Pipes Of Peace, but a lot of albums are unheard.

As for my own favorite: I choose Venus And Mars. Great songs, nice art work (they got a reward for that, I remember) and I love the first two songs especially, which is almost like a mini-prog suite. No, the last statement is probably not true, but there's a nice contrast between the two songs, and I like the way they are connected with each other.

I'm not surprised, though, that Ram and Band On The Run are his most popular albums.

Yes, one could underestimate McCartney, but he has done some great, lasting things in the post-Beatles era.

Yes, the Lagos experience was quite an experience. It did pay off, and even Lennon liked the album Smile

Tough call. Band on the Run is the obvious choice, I do like the debut but I've voted for Off the Ground as I've always liked it and it's probably the only vote it will get.

As you seem to be including live albums, you've missed Paul Is Live and the Russian unplugged one.

True, because  (like I mentioned in so many words), he made so many albums that I had to make a choice.
Probably not the best of choices, when I see your post Embarrassed . You were probably going to vote for one of those.

I know very few of his solo or Wings albums, I have heard Band On The Run and a couple others but long time ago, the only one I do have is Venus And Mars which I really like, it played often at home when I was a child so it brings back nice memories, and the music is pretty good.

I voted for one of the only solo albums of his I have, `Flaming Pie', and I've always found it pretty consistently good all the way through.

He was due to hit Melbourne for some live shows soon after it's release, my girlfriend at the time was a mad Beatles/McCartney fan, so it would have been great to see together, but the show was cancelled. Don't recall the reason why, I think it was due to a mix of too high ticket prices and not enough sold?

But `Flaming Pie' had some great stuff like `Young Boy', just a classy timeless pop/rocker with a winning melody, a very nice tune I love every bit of:

This. Ram, then McCartney. Was more of a Lennon fan anyway.

Band On The The Run seems to be clearly leading the poll, before Ram.
Not much love for McCartney solo, though, seeing the few votes in this poll.
Sorry, Macca, you still did a good job with your music Thumbs Up

I suppose Ram or Band On The Run are the ones I like the most......after Venus and Mars I stopped listening.

I really can't vote. I haven't heard more than three of these albums (knowingly) and the only one I own is Band on the run - which is great mind.  So if I had to it would be that one but I won't, if you know what I mean?

Band on the Run (a perfect album)
Venus and Mars  (underrated at the time - but it's fantastic)
Ram

Honorable mention to London Town which is starting to grow on me.

I bought the recent Deluxe Edition of Venus and Mars ...  worth every penny.

Back in the day before I became a total prog fanatic, I had Band On The Run and after that Venus and Mars.  Neither of these inspired me to get CD copies, but hey, you can't be all enthusiastic about everything you have encountered in music...

The wife is a Macca fan; she has at least 20 solo/Wings albums.  I dig the first few, especially the first.  There is nothing else like it - his first release after the split and to put out such a homemade seemingly tossed off album took some guts.  It stands the test of time so much more than, say, Red Rose or Speed of Sound.

The first album>Ram>Wild Life.....the rest.  If I were to pick an overlooked Macca record it would be London Town - solid, laid back album made with Denny Laine.

I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there.....
