PoS is much more creative IMO, while Anekdoten is a mid-period Crimson clone. Besides they have Daniel Gildenlow as a vocalist!!

Anekdoten is far from a King Crimson clone in my opinion except for maybe the debut, but yeah Anekdoten by a landslide.

I have not heard much from Pain of Salvation, but what I heard sounded quite right. Yet Anekdoten is of another league and probably my favourite Swidish prog band nowadays.

This.

Also, how is either band old guard or new, they're both from the 90's.

Pain of Salvation.

When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light.
Through the skies, his white horse flies.
To find a land beyond the night.
