Love both but it's getting increasingly rarer that I put on a Yes album. Gong on the other hand is a band that I listen to on a weekly basis. good to see you taking charge of the Gong Army. I had to recuse myself for conflict of interest.god I hope this doesn't go down to the finish, it would tear me apart to decide between two bands that are purely awesome and near the very top of my personal favorites list and with so many classics. A possible edge to Yes for making 2 of the greatest genre -defining prog albums ever made. CTTE and TFTO. but Gong wipes that edge away in large part to still being a functional creative band putting out great stuff, not becoming a parody of itself as Yes has become. I have just tried to listen to Camembert Electrique, Angel's Egg and Flying Teapot for the first time in over 20 years. I didn't make it through any of them. They're all albums I bought in my hippy days in the 70s. Now I think, to be honest, they're all absolute crap and they can go to the 2nd hand record shop. I never think that about any Yes album. Thanks Micky! I don't want GonG to go down without a fight. The plan seems to be working so far - get some early hits in and then stay ahead and win from the front by a neck or so. So much so that a few members of the Yes Team are already resorting to abusing the underdog - poor show. I definitely think that the fact that GonG have a current album out of some decent quality should count for something for anyone who is also sitting on the fence! and think of how annoyed some will be if GonG bring the prize home to Planet GonG. ------------- Help me I'm falling! |

If it stays close... Gong will win. Though I must admit... I do hope it doesn't come down to me. It is dead even between the two. Looking ahead, Floyd-Yes will be a lot more competitve than Yes-Gong. I really am dead serious. I wouldn't know who to vote for if my vote were needed and made a difference at the end. I did think this might really be close. We have whipped the Gong Army into shape .. and as I've posted before.. unlike the old days of this site.. there really is no 'Yes Army'. Plus I have seen more anti-Yes posters today than I remember from back in the day here. Micky, I'm not sure you can trust them! Listening to Genesis Pop albums is not considered a crime against Prog by all members of PA and they may feel they can come out of the closet and weather the storm(bringer). This was a mirage Yes will win, in any Prog Forum, Yes and Genesis can only be beaten by Yes or Genesis, maybe Crimson, but not one else. I love Yes music dearly, but can't stand Jon Castrato voice, neither his pseudo mystical lyrics. If Trevor Horn would had vbeen the vocalist I would had voted for Yes until the final -------------

I guess you've been hating Anderson's vocals for far too long (for longer than I have known prog, I would guess, at the very least), but perhaps trying to ignore the vocals and focusing on the music would help to come to enjoy Yes music more... and then perhaps you could find Anderson's vocals more tolerable. For my part, I really don't like Gabriel's singing, nor his pseudo comic lyrics, but I really like lot's of Genesis music, so I enjoy it for what it is, and on those songs that I have come to love neither the vocals, nor the lyrics (mostly) annoy me much anymore. |

Yes were already spluttering by the early 80s (despite the commercial success of 90125) whereas Gong had splintered into the wider Gong family from Allen's solo albums, Hillage and System 7 as well as the wonderful fusion of Moerlen's incarnation of the band (to name but a few). Only Anderson seems to be similarly creative (i.e. 'Deseo'). Gong continue to produce sporadic but creative albums and although I am a huge Yes fan, I really wished they had followed a similar path. The squabbling over the years has also been unseemly... |

I guess you could add most of The Lamb to the Comedy list... or perhaps not. The storyline is so ambiguous and difficult to follow anyway, and even if the lyrics are not comic, the immages that come to my mind from Gabriel's descriptions just don't please me. As for Gabriel solo, I'm afraid I haven't really gotten into it, so I wouldn't know. |

 yeah I suppose so, but since I am a huge fan of both, I had hoped it would be a bit closer. Oh well. Probably for the best, Floyd v. Yes will be a helluva lot better matchup than Floyd v. Gong.btw. Giving sympathy vote for Gong. Now say if it had been Sunday morning and it was tied, and I had to break it? I would have voted for Yes. After 45+ years they are given a pass for being a parody of themselves today.
