Probably not too much known to the prog fans, but he has been sometimes borderline.
He founded the Italian beat band New Dada in the 60s, then he jumped on the Punk train in the 70s until he moved to Ambient/electronic with some hints of Avant in the 80s with his wife Cristina in the duo Krisma.

Krisma had a number of collaborations, some uncredited with Vangelis and Jon Anderson, Hans Zimmer and Battiato (Maurizio was co-composer in Dieci Stratagemmi). They spent some times in the Warhol's circle in NY.
Most of the Krisma albums have been produced by Nico Papathanassious (Vangelis' brother)

In 1978, he was on stage when the public attacked him verbally. His reaction was to cut himself a finger!

Not a big, but I just think he deserves a mention.

I read about it yesterday in the Italian news, and was saddened because Maurizio was way too young to go. I do remember Krisma, who were ground-breaking in their own way, introducing punk and new wave (also in terms of look) to the Italian music scene.

From a listening a few years back I recall Arcieri trying emulate Battisti's mid-70's, highly sophisticated works without much success, his ''Trasparenze'' album made it to the Progressive Italia boxset for anyone interested in his attempt. His Krisma was much more original and genuine for what it was...RIP...
