My progressive friends, I have some very important news that concerns the Pothead Pixie himself: ******* To all concerned Gong Global Family - Brace yourselves as we have some hard news for everyone. We will be straight up about this as we believe that everyone involved and all the Global Family deserves to know the direct truth of Daevid's changing health situation and to be part of the transformation the next sixth months will bring - There is a massive and very important opportunity for a positive collective transformation of everyone energetically and spiritually part of Gong. So calling all Gong Gentle folk, Global psychedelic Gongheads, Gnomes, PHPs, Pixies and Travelers, musicians, artists and regular folk who have been with Gong over time to come join us in this conscious and powerful celebration - joint meditation and contemplation of Dying and Death : Time to Transform the Western Dominant and Taboo Death Paradigm. * Now a word from the Mr Bert Dingo Virgin Camembert himself* or otherwise known as Dada Ali : Hello you Kookaburras, OK so I have had my PET-CAT scans (which is essentially a full body viewing gallery for cancer specialists) and so it is now confirmed that the invading cancer has returned to successfully establish dominant residency in my neck. The original surgery took much of it out, but the cancer has now recreated itself with renewed vigour while also spreading to my lung. The cancer is now so well established that I have now been given approximately six months to live. So My view has Changed: I am not interested in endless surgical operations and in fact it has come as a relief to know that the end is in sight. I am a great believer in "The Will of the Way Things Are" and I also believe that the time has come to stop resisting and denying and to surrender to the way it is. I can only hope that during this journey, I have somehow contributed to the happiness in the lives of a few other fellow humans. I believe I have done my best to heal, dear friends, and that you have been enormously helpful in supporting me through this time. Oh, no I'm in shock. So much more to give as a physical being yet so little time; musically, the #1 prog album of 2014 cf. my submission to PA's top album survey. He'll play a prominent role in my meditation tonight. His energy will continue to have an impact on me and everyone else who is open to it

Such sad news, though I am deeply moved by Daevid's acceptance and serenity. When Micky and I saw the rough screening of the forthcoming Romantic Warriors: Canterbury Tales documentaries, I was impressed by his youthfulness and gentle sense of humour. Very likely Daevid will have already left us when the film is finally released - which will make things even more poignant, seen as we have already lost so many of the original Canterbury artists. |

Let us hold Daevid in our hearts and thoughts, he is traveling down a path that we shall all visit someday....my wish is that he has a peaceful passing when the time comes. I don't blame him for wanting to turn off the machines and surgeons. Thank you, Master Builder!

An eternal genius, even in his departure from the physical world he manages to keep his grace and uniqueness. When he came to Tel Aviv a few years ago I was only 15 or 16 and seeing a 70 something year old jumping and running around even more than I was made me feel like he was going to keep at it forever. truly one of the more inspired visionaries of the last hundred years. I shall be sad to see him go but I am glad he is peaceful about the whole thing. In the end, it is only Daevid's body that is dying, we all know you can kill his body but you can't kill him. Soon enough, we'll be seeing, being and dreaming him yet again. I just hope there is some kind of awesome tribute Gong festival for this, or if not I shall organize one someday. There is a statement from his son on the Gong website: Hello, I'm Daevid Allen's youngest son and his current carer. It was suggested to me recently that perhaps I should blog a bit about his current day to day condition, to keep the fans in the loop. While I decided against actually starting a blog, I thought maybe an update here and there wouldn't be remiss of me. Dad is in quite a lot of pain at the moment, most of it sourcing from an open wound on his neck that will not close over because of a suspected cancerous origin. While this is fairly easy for me to attend to, it makes it difficult for him to move his head/left shoulder- and has become an almost constant source of pain. To help manage this we have been using special opiate patches on top of his regular intake of painkillers. The most significant downside to this is a loss of cognitive awareness- making him very hazy about his surroundings and situation. In an effort to bring back a modicum of his usual bright-eyed wit, our nurse was helping me experiment with the opiates' dosage over the last couple of days. Sadly, as it often does with cases like this, it comes down to either having a high dosage with no pain and a comfortable, drifting awareness or a few hours a day of mental acuity with intense discomfort and pain. Obviously we are going with the former option with his happiness and comfort being my top priority. He still has a flow of close friends and family dropping by to spend time with him, and even when he's a bit out of it he still enjoys the company and pleasant conversation. Unfortunately he doesn't have the energy to parse the masses of well wishes you all have been sending him, but he's aware and grateful of all the support and every now and then I'll play a little something one of you has done in the background. For the most part he's relaxed and happy and slowly winding down in the warm comfort of his favourite chair. ------------- Help me I'm falling! |

I just reviewed it last weekend and it seemed clear this was his farewell recording. I can't even begin to express how good that record is, it's like all who were involved went beyond themselves including Daevid to release the most memorable GONG album i've heard. Also my oldest daughter gave me a Prog magazine a few weeks ago which I haven't purchased in a couple of years because of how expensive they are, and surprise there's a really good interview with Daevid in it talking about the new album etc. I pray for a miracle. ------------- "The wind is slowly tearing her apart" "Sad Rain" ANEKDOTEN |
