20 more albums I could think of, again I excluded Animals and Wind & Wuthering, otherwise all votes would go to them.
I wanted to add some Tangerine Dream but I could not make up my mind of the 3 albums I know of (Stratosfear, Cyclone and Force Majeure).
Also could not decide betwwen Alan Parsons Project first two albums, which are both excellent. Also Brand X was hard to choose as well, I thought of them.
I wonder if the lesser known albums, little gems will get any votes/appreciation.
if I forgot an album you find essential, it can only mean 2 things: first that i am forgetful , and second is that I do not know it (and I'm sure I might not know a few). Kindly mention it, after all, I live and learn.

Apparently you saved the best for the last. I give the edge to Still Life just above Hemispheres - and I would do so even if Animals and Wind and Wuthering were included. Eloy and Kansas are also good.

I'll go with Novella here. Probably would go for Tangerine Dream is Stratosfear was included. And I hate to say but yes, had Genesis been included here I would have voted for them :D

Fluid Druid.
I met the band many times and loved their music. They were so much more than the Yes clones some describe them as.

In an imaginary world where newbies like myself are allowed to vote ... Hemispheres , Yes I love Kansas .. but hemispheres this time. imaginary vote for Rush. Hemispheres wins this poll, but only by a whisker as Hemispheres is a fairly short album ... I know all the albums in this poll Hemispheres is probably in the top 5 prog albums of all time by any artist in my opinion, Next would be point of know return by Kansas Looking forward to a poll where Song For America gets a mention be interesting to see how that goes, you wont ever hear incomudro hymn to the Atman on the radio so Song For America must be prog ..

Not a big fan of VdGG or Tull, so that frees up the heavy hitters. As much as I especially love the Renaissance, Eloy, Jane, Kansas, Sebastian Hardie and Grobschnitt albums offered here, I'm going to be the first to vote for PFM's `Jet Lag'.
`Jet Lag' is a little controversial and divisive album for them, with quite a strong jazz-fusion element that sounds like none of their other albums. I prefer it over the previous disc `Chocolate Kings' at least, and I play it quite often these days.

One of the problems I find with heavy Horses is its a bit inconsistent at times boring (theres a number of throw away tracks on that album thats aren't classic Tull) .. I love Tull but I believe Stormwatch is better I think Ian Anderson song writing was really in form on Stormwatch I also believe most of the great tracks on heavy Horses featured on Bursting Out and they performed those better too Barriemore Barlow drumming was tame compared to the Bursting out versions I`m talking about, lacked the fusion the drive the wallop ! Tull deserve to win a poll so go guys ! and Eloy Ocean is a masterpiece of prog ... perhaps the father of Neo prog when you think about it .. so hope they do well too. looking at these polls Cristi you have made me realize how lucky I am to have found progressive rock ... every band is great in these polls and the winner won't win by much, it will be a case if gee this is tough which one should I choose , most people will have 3 albums they have about the same opinion of and have to flip a coin to decide.

of all the albums, Jane, Camel and Gotic did not get any votes. Even Uriah Heep's Firefly got a couple.

Changed that! Voted for Gotic; that album is such a refreshing Catalan gem - like a warm ocean breeze on a summer evening.
However, I'd agree with Ian that most of my favourites from this era weren't listed:
Bubu - Anabelas Crucis - Los Delirios Del Mariscal Harmonium - l'Heptade MIA - Cornonstipicum Novalis - Sommerabend Opus 5 - Contre-Courant Rayuela - Rayuela Weidorje - Weidorje
Yep, '76 to '79 was right around the time that Britain's prog talent had thoroughly dried up, but the rest of the world was on fire!

Hemispheres gets my vote - however, it is nice to remember the other albums I bought at the time from my hard-earned pocket money and funds from various birthdays and Christmases:
Electric Savage, Fluid Druid, Heavy Horses, Clear Air Turbulence, Breathless, Novella and Point of Know Return all had many enjoyable spins on the old turntable back in the day, while the music business jumped on the New Wave/Punk bandwagon over here in the UK.

Electric Savage Firefly (fave Heep album, by far) Free Fall Heavy Horses Hemispheres Novella Ocean PoKR
...and Tangerine Dream's Force Majeure, that's where my vote would go.
