Seeing as the last Febus thread has reached over 500 pages, I thought it was about time to commence a new oneBig smile

As always, I like to start out this thread with a Soft Machine album in honour of our friend Antoine, who sadly isn't with us anymore - at least not in person. As long as this thread goes on though, I'm fairly certain he's here in one way or the other.

A representative of one of my favourite pseudogenres, occult/Satanic-themed heavy metal before "black metal" really became a thing, that returned in the 21st century. Has both the requisite scruffiness of the NWoBHM but also a lot of polish and atmospheric flourishes that hearken back to 1970s prog.

I came across them recently (when they reissued their albums) as well. I always associate them with DLJ because of their very lucid harmonic sense. Great stuff indeed.

Death metal with a strong "Morbid Angel meets early Voivod" vibe. Shares a couple members with Virus, which explains the occasional weird progressive tangent to their music.

Bonamassa is pretty good. I've seen him live and own some of his CDs. If you want a good studio album to go to, start with Ballad of John Henry.

Did some research, Peter Frampton met Pete Drake, country music pedal steel guitarist, during the George
Harrison All Things Must Pass  session. Frampton was amazed with Drake's talk box which he had been using for years (Pete Drake And His Talking Steel Guitar). Drake gave the talk box to Frampton (I'm sure he had more at home).

^ Indeed. And so Frampton spent a whole month focusing on learning how to use it. The results are impressive.
