Hi there! I decided to know what is the opinion of PA fans about prog rock "made in South America"... Perhaps there is a lot of awsome bands and album I got to reduce the list selecting the best rated bands/albums on PA... Just Paraguay is represented by a band that is not listed on PA (even when they're inspired pioneers of the genre during the 80's)... Anyway, here is the first list so feel free to vote and to comment about other bands and albums that I will include in future similar polls... Enjoy!

Not fair... this should have been made "Latin American" bands, and included Mexico (well, and perhaps Cuba and some others who's bands I may not be aware of).

Yeah those two standout from the pack big time, I gave both 4.5 stars so it's a really hard choice. Bacamarte is such a beautiful record but I think i'm going to go with Bubu this time.

I like some SouthAmerican prog, like OPA from Uruguay, Alejandro Matos and ROdrigo San Martin from Argentina, Tom Zè from Brasil, but I'm not a fan of any of the albums listed

Modern artists like Nexus, Factor Burzaco, Tempano, Aisles, Hominído, and Violeta di Outono have produced albums that have, for me, eclipsed the albums of the 70s and 80s.

Mickey:  Awesome song clip. The best sound (recording) I've heard from Los Jaivas. I love their eclecticism: classical, traditional/folk, space/Hawkwind, theatric/vaudevillian, etc., etc.

Very tough between two of my favourite South American bands: Los Jaivas and Bacamarte.
Vote goes to the immortal Alturas de Macchu Picchu.

Other fantastic bands to consider: Nexus, Cazuela de Condor, Kharmina Buranna, Crucis, Invisible, Matraz...

Hmmm... never heard any spanish band, but I'm suspecting something it might have to do, and I would think the same about some portuguese bands, even though I've never listened to any of them either.

Beautiful thoughts man.

Interesting suggestion, when I begin to listen to internet prog shows again I'll surely follow your suggestion, it has been a while since I stopped listening to the only ones I used to listen to (The Ancient One/Prog Mill.)

I'm looking forward to these polls and will check out some of the ones I don't know from this list. Chile in particular has an abundance of amazing bands i'm into but of course Brazil and Argentina are right up there as well.  It's incredible how many South American bands were inspired by King Crimson and one other thing that surprised me when I first got into bands from down there was the RPI feel that many also had.

Never forgetting the huge amount of South American folk music that was added by many bands into their music being them symphonic, fusion, experimental, etc.

Los Jaivas is the first to come to mind when these folk spices are looked upon but I remember also some others not listed here like Terreno Baldio and Flor de Loto.
