We all love Camel, don't we, and some of us may have been lucky enough to hear Camel bass man Colin Bass' excellent An Outcast of the Islands album (and/or the other one that I actually haven't, gotta fix that...). Well, there's a new album on the way, and you can help make it come to life:

Quote Colin Bass - new album - 'At Wild End'. Help fund this artist-run, independent production.
Greetings dear friends, curiosity-seekers and serendipitous passers-by,

I’m here enlisting support to help finish my third solo album in about 17 years. Well, there’s been lots of other stuff to do but I’m definitely ready now. I’m never sure how it happens but it seems songs come along in flocks. First just one or two appear after wandering in the wilderness, out of sight for years. Then you only have to start nurturing them and suddenly scores of them come out of nowhere, all jostling for attention. So, after a year being carefully and lovingly tended to, I now have a herd of them and they’re almost ready to find their way to new homes. But first they’ll need to be introduced to some musical friends of mine, get all spruced up, mixed, mastered and house-trained so that they can give their new owners many years of pleasure, Yes, please remember, a good song is for life, not just for Christmas!

That’s about as far as I can reasonably extend this song-as-cuddly-furry-beast metaphor so I’ll move on and provide an answer to the FAQ: what’s it all about? Well, I see it as a collection of songs with three interweaving threads: a chronicle of dreams with their subliminal messages and sudden changes of scene, mood and possibility;  a reflection of a life of musical experiences and enthusiasms; a series of poems in praise of pastoral pleasures. This last thread gives the name to the album as it takes inspiration from life around the Wild End, a magical place nestled in the Snowdonia borderlands of beautiful North Wales.
That’s how I see it but, as always, I hope that the listener will make their own story out of it. But to get that far, I need you to participate in the grand design!

As with my previous two albums, 'At Wild End' is an artist-run independent production. Design, pressing, studio use and mastering all requires investment. And it may be old-fashioned of me but I believe that my musical friends who will perform on the album should be paid! So I hope you will help alleviate some of these costs by pre-ordering the album or even going for one of the other offers listed here.
I'm trying to keep things simple with this campaign: I'm concentrating on a CD release - handsomely packaged with an extensive booklet of my photos, lyrics and poems. I'm not offering downloads to begin with, (I may do this later through an artist-friendly download site).  A vinyl version is a possibility, depending on response and your feedback.

I've opted for Indiegogo as a campaign platform as this project is scaleable depending on your input. The more support I get, the bigger the production will be.

Whatever happens, I'm projecting a release in May/June.

Updates on progress will be uploaded here.

Friends! Creating an album is always an adventure. I hope you'll participate with me in this one!

I hope his new album will be more like 1999's An Outcast Of The Islands than the weak In The Meantime from 2003.
