With his current health condition this is by no means surprising.

But this is quite a sad story. I feel many GonG marathons coming up.

RIP

He was given six months to live at the beginning of February, so he has been robbed of almost five of them. On the plus side , I expect he has been spared much suffering by this early exit. He did say he wasn't going to fight his illness, and it seems he was true to his word.

RIP.

Friday 13th - I knew something dire would happen this day.......
Very sad news indeed. My dear Anarchist, Visionary, Pothead Pixie, Revolutionist, Instigator, Pioneer, Joker, Prog Zero ....... (and more - always making 'light' of tough situations in my life) - gone......
Of course, I never knew him in person, though my heart goes out to Gilli, his immediate family, friends, and all associated with Daevid and his musical escapades........
We were prepared, we knew it, damn this is up there with the toughest news within my Prog-Fanboy life........
Vive Gong, may that teapot fly high in the here-and-now, and for evermore.
When I discovered Camembert Electrique back in the late 80's, that was it, Daevid was 'it', the 'one' - glissando-ing his way through the cosmos and taking me along for the ride. He always selected (?) the most fitting musicians to join him, without him, I'm sure there'd be no 'Canterbury Scene', and I thank him eternally for all the positivity and joy his music and words have brought to my life.
R.I.P. Daevid, you will NEVER be forgotten.

That explains the strange phenomenon I witnessed last night - the stars were dancing joyously, one becoming brighter and brighter until it suddenly died out in a burst to give life to new stars.

I'd read he was going downhill very fast, so I was somehow expecting it to happen soon.. This doesn't make it less sad, though. RIP David, and thanks for the music and the joy you gave usCry.

Quote Gong founder Daevid Allen has died, aged 77

Legendary eccentric had announced he only had six months to live in February

Daevid Allen, the leader of the legendary prog-jazz eccentrics Gong, has died aged 77. The news was confirmed on the Facebook page of Allen’s son, Orlando Monday Allen.

"And so dada Ali, bert camembert, the dingo Virgin, divided alien and his other 12 selves prepare to pass up the oily way and back to the planet of love. And I rejoice and give thanks,” he wrote. “Thanks to you dear dear daevid for introducing me to my family of magick brothers and mystic sisters, for revealing the mysteries, you were the master builder but now have made us all the master builders. As the eternal wheel turns we will continue your message of love and pass it around. We are all one, we are all gong. Rest well my friend, float off on our ocean of love. The gong vibration will forever sound and its vibration will always lift and enhance. You have left such a beautiful legacy and we will make sure it forever shines in our children and their children. Now is the happiest time of yr life. Blessed be.

I feel like I just lost a close friend, he's a better man than me the way he promoted love to his fellow man. A true light has been snuffed out but his music and message will live on.

Wow... This has been a rough season...

For me:

First Chris Rainbow passes away, and now this?!?

This cycle has got to slow down.  We are left with nothing but crap "performers"... all the "musicians" are dying.

I can't take it .  My musical heart is breaking too much lately.

For the past few weeks the ringtone on my phone has been 'Out of Here' alt version from the recent Stoned Innocent Frankenstein album. My sister used to live in France and bought both the Banana Moon and Camembert Electrique Albums on Byg for me as they were released. Really got into Banana Moon album when by coincidence it was 5 to 3 am and I was depriving myself of sleep.

Heard it announced on radio 4 as i sped down the M4; its hard to drive with tears in your eyes.. Later that evening Steven Wilson gave his tribute at the Cardiff gig and dedicated 'The Raven that refused to sing' so more tears.. But such solice to think Camembert Electrique and the Radio Gnome trilogy are being played all around the planet at this moment and Daevids supremely positive and healing vision for the world will be left as legacy of profound sillyness and joy for all future generations to enjoy. After tears Cry comes celebrationClapBig smile Thank you Daevid, rest in peace and blessings on the wider Gong family xx

I've been offline for a few days and this was the first thing I learnt when I got everything fixed.
I got into Gong from a friend in the 90's. Used to have "Shapeshifter" poster on my bedroom wall. (Although I kept missing the tours!)
R.I.P. Daevid Allen and thanks for the music that's meant a lot to how I turned out!

indeed man.  Another case of a life to be celebrated rather than a loss to be mourned. I'm sure that is exactly how he'd see it.

Happy to see his suffering is over and he has moved on to bigger and better things in that cosmic wheel of life.
