Not really in love with either, but I'll give it to Hackett.

I still can't believe that Hackett artwork is real. Holy hell that's terrible.

My copy of the Hackett's on the way, but although the Wilson disc is certainly a fine album....Man, I don't know...I feel like's it's a lot of surface thrills and not a lot of depth to warrant retuning to over and over? It's very well played and has tons of variety, but it feels like a background listen already. I personally don't feel the urge to delve any deeper with it, and I don't get a lot of excitement from it, even though it's merits are many.

Then again, maybe it's me that's wrong in failing to see it's `brilliance' along with the rest of the world? Very likely...

It doesn't help that a lot of people, even some close friends of mine, have been batting on about it for weeks now like it's the single greatest accomplishment Mr Wilson has ever delivered - let's calm the f**k down right there, people!

Word...and as bad as the wolves are, it's that sh*tty photoshopped skyline in the corner that my eye is drawn to over and over.

Never heard Steve Hackett, and 'Hand.Cannot.Erase.' was good but not amazing. No vote.

Apparently the photo with Steve and the wolves is actually a real photo. But it's been processed so much that it doesn't look it.

Wolflight is the best Hackett album since To Watch The Storms.
Hand.Cannot.Erase is the best Wilson album since the last oneSmile

Both are contenders for my album of the year so I am going for a 'tie'.

I don't really like either that much but if I would have to pick I'd go for Wilson.

Lol---supposedly his friend in Italy has rescued wolves he's domesticated and the pic is real. The pic looks like something you'd get on a tee shirt in Alaska gift shopSmile

Haven't got my copy of either but they are on their way. Have to say as a huge Hackett fan ---the parts I've heard sound similar to what he's been doing--was hoping for a new direction.

Okay then, Funstuff. I'll take Hackett's unheard album over Mind. Cannot. Erase. Listening to Steven Wilson's new album.

Neither one is all that spectacular. I think Darktown was Hackett's last really great album and Wilson's solo stuff doesn't resonate with me like Porcupine Tree did when I first heard them. So while it may be a tie neither is my favourite.

Thank you for supporting independently produced music

I love Steve Wilson's record, but Steve Hackett's "Wolflight" takes my vote. Both albums have great, fantastic music though.

While Wolflight is the best album Hackett has done since Defector, Wilson once again makes a very strong case for the best album of the year.

A Steves poll that omit the G man should not be taken seriously.

Hand Cannot Erase is astonishing - considerably better than TRTRTS.

Clearly the likely album of the year.

Until Wolflight came out - now I'm not so sure.

I'm going for a tie.

I haven't listened to Wolfight yet.

I liked the new Steven Wilson a lot.

These are obviously both great albums.  But Steve Hackett just amazes me.  His old Genesis bandmates are all at the threshold of the nursing home, and here he is, crafting album after album of intriguing, complex, rich, and varied music, some of the best of his whole career.

If you were to know nothing about the two musicians, just set these albums side by side, I am not sure you could tell which musician was old enough to be the other's father.  But I give it to Steve Hackett, because his album has twice the range of Steven Wilson's

Being the generous fan of progressive rock that he is, I think Wilson would even agree with me!

...hmm....that's a tough one.
Hand. Cannot. Erase is a quality album, although it hasn't quite moved me like The Raven that Refused to Sing... Steven's a true genius, but would love to see PT back in the game in the years to come.
Wolflight is getting a lot of airplay at present, and is broader in style and more challenging. Positive vibes on the first listen, but is continuing to grow on me more and more.
Currently neck and neck...both fine albums from the current icons of the UK prog world...but I should be able to come off the fence in the near future.

Steven Wilson, Hand. Cannot. Erase.

What...the wolves are real and Hackett was replaced by a body double?

At first I liked Wilson's better--but the last third doesn't do it for me---right now it's Hackett--a rich epic listening experience.Big smile

Steven Wilson is clearly a talented musician, but I don't think he could ever outdo some of his Porcupine Tree efforts.

I clearly need to give Wolflight another spin because this album is just not doing it to me. I can't find any track here remotely as good as "Turn This Island Earth". The Steven Wilson album on the other hand is album of the year so far for me.
