Oh yes - the mind-blowing debut !! SPECTACULAR.
Schwingungun is also pretty amazing. John L makes me laugh, he must've been so stoned 'singing' on this ......
Funny you mention Eno - he probably did like Tempel - he liked so many obscure bands, come to think of it, ENO in the 80's (in particular), is sort of what Steven Wilson is now. They both absorb so much knowledge from listening to 100's of acts, and incorporate all the tricks-of-the-trade they've gained from them to apply to their productions and usually bring out phenomenal results.

Ash Ra Tempel
Join Inn

Really the only two that are essential, IMHO.

Join Inn is similar in style to the debut with two side long tracks and one of them being fairly tranquil. A must have in my opinion. I agree with Tom about Schwingungun but most feel it's too out there.

I've been digging the 7-Up album lately, mainly 'cause I've overplayed the debut, Schwim and Join Inn....plus, their blues never really got as bluesy than on 7.....plus, love how the album is separated into a space side and a time side....plus, Timothy Leary in exile!

I change my mind all the time. Used to be Le Berceau de Cristal, which is cheating seeing as it basically is an Ashra/Göttsching album. These days I shift between Join Inn and Schwingungen.

Side 2 of "Join Inn" (of the vinyl, that is), the track "Jenseits" (German for "Afterlife") tells of the meeting of Ash Ra Tempel with Timothy Leary. It starts with the words: "Weisst du noch der Garten am Ende der Straße? Es ist Vollmond" meaning "Do you remember the garden at the end of the street? It is full moon". Join Inn is my favourite, but "Schwingungen" and the self-titled debut are excellent as well. And I also like "Starring Rosi" and "Inventions for Electric Guitar".

Hmmm....I have the first 3 but I don't play them often and I actually couldn't say which one I like better.
They never impressed me all that much.....perhaps I need to revisit them.
