I'm currently listening to an album a band member or someone connected to the band wanted me to review: Lavoro D'amore by Roz Vitalis.  http://rozvitalis.bandcamp.com/" rel="nofollow - http://rozvitalis.bandcamp.com/

Other albums I was asked to review and enjoyed...

Methexis - Suiciety
Unreal City - Il paese del Tramonto

Some excellent releases to far. The long awaited albums of Nice Beaver and Anekdoten are instant masterpieces. Those of Cailyn Lloyd and La Coscienza di Zeno are worth a honourable mention as well.

I'll have to listen to the Tangents new album yet.

I don't think I can complaint about ANY year of "progressive" or "prog", since the very beginning!

This has been and probably will continue to be a very low-key year for prog, with a few good/great albums that don't particularly stand out, and with the new Steven Wilson being about as fun as sitting in GWB traffic.

The two really great prog releases thus far have been Zs's Xe and Pond's Man It Feels Like Space Again.

I am really looking forward to the Leprous album. I plan to get the Steve Hackett album soon. The Anekdoken album is excellent too. There are too many to list. I do not think last year was better, but I agree with the folks that say any year with program is excellent. :)

The highlights for me, so far, are Karda Estra's Strange Relations, Ghost Rhythms' Madeleine, October Equus' Live at Rio Festival 2014 and Vespero's Fitful Slumber Until 5am.

Quite stoked about some of what's coming up soon, notably a new one from Angel Ontalva (which looks like featuring the current October Equus lineup plus several others) and a new Guapo.

Angel Ontalva is one of the best-kept secrets of the current prog scene. All the releases he's been involved with are nothing less than outstanding. Also agree on the Ghost Rhythms album (the band are currently under evaluation by the Eclectic Prog team), while I haven't heard the new Karda Estra yet.

Anyway, in my opinion the best releases of this year so far have come from little-known bands or artists - with the sole exception of Anekdoten.

You managed to quote me before I edited to add the recent October Equus live album! I am a big fan of pretty much all Angel's projects.

Agree on the Karda Estra and October Equus, I just picked up the first Ghost Rhythms so will probably pick up the recent one soon. Really really looking forward the the Guapo release. It'll be James's last on on bass as he's just joined Thurston Moores band. The bassist from Thumpermonkey has replaced him.

Hand. Cannot. Erase. - Steven Wilson
The Grand Experiment - The Neal Morse Band
Alco Frisbass - Alco Frisbass
Until All the Ghosts are Gone - Anekdoten
+4626-COMFORTZONE - Beardfish
Šlaǧ Tanz - Magma

Not bad at all. Bjork also had a good album. The Ciccada album was disappointing though.

All the prog albums from this year that I've heard have elicited similar reactions out of me: namely, I don't know what to think of them. Not because of explicit flaws, but mostly because I streamed them once and wasn't entirely focused on the albums, or just because I wasn't sure what they were going for. I'm digging backwards with my purchases, currently. Once my birthday comes around, I'll probably buy a bunch of CDs from this year.

I would also add Lonely Robot and The Enid - The Bridge, plus the deluxe 2 disc edition of Dave Kerzner's - New World although released as a singe CD last year ( and went totally under the radar) now has 2 CD's of brilliant original music ( the second disc is not a bonus disc). Davy O'List's solo release  is another great album and should be considered 'prog' and last but not least Patterson/Eyre's Northlands album which is also enchanting.  Of those already mentioned I like the Wilson , Hackett and Beardfish releases. So that's 8 contenders for my album of the year and there are still 8 months to go!

^Would definitely have thought you owned a couple of Chrome Hoof albumsShocked
You are certainly in for a treat. This band's inspiration reaches as far as Zeuhl, pop, avant, electronic, disco and metal - and they tend to cram their albums full of these unlikely bedfellows.

Their newest is just about as good of a start to their discography as anyThumbs Up

The new version(s) of Spectral Mornings by Longdon,Booth,Hackett,Reed,Beggs and D'Virgillio is another great addition to this years releases. For those that don't know , its a charity EP in aid of Parkinson's which of course is a particularly nasty disease. Please get your wallets out for this and the bonus is that's its rather good to say the least. There are 4 versions , 2 with lyrics and 2 instrumental. I love them all!

Most of the album's I've been particularly impressed by so far this year haven't been prog, or at least not much (though I haven't gone looking for much avant yet), but some notable ones:

Godspeed You Black Emperor- Asunder, Sweet and Other Desires
Pond- Man It Feels Like Space Again
Bjork- Vulnicura

Non-prog:
Kendrick Lamar- To Pimp A Butterfly
Sufjan Stevens- Carrie & Lowell
Courtney Barnett- Sometimes I Sit And Think...

I'm a big Beardfish fan, but their new one underwhelmed me, and after several listens I don't really feel any pull at all to listen to it again.

Strange thing personal taste, this album has had the biggest four/five spin effect on me for five years.....It's absolutely brilliant from start to end (excepting the two bonus tracks I think).
But my youngest son - says that Hackett can play a guitar but he isn't a good composer ! (He's sulking coz I said it was better than the S. Wilson H.C.E !!!)

Agreed! 2015 is shaping up to be a good one! I've listened to about 50 albums (thanks to progstreaming, band camp and spottily) so far and can claim these bands' releases as my favorites (in order):
ANEKDOTEN
THE PSYCHEDELIC ENSEMBLE
LA COSCIENZA DI ZENO
METHEXIS
KLONE
THE AMAZING
ABSTRAKT
CICCADA

T he releases of SANGUINE HUM, ALCO FRISBASS, THE NERVE INSTITUTE, VOLA, STEVEN WILSON, DAVE KERZER and NICE BEAVER are also quite good.

Haven't yet gotten my hands in much 2015 prog yet. What I got and really like:
The Barock Project -Skyline.

A spark in the Aether by The Tanget is the only other  prog release I purchased, but somehow I am not really warming to it.

On the Non-Prog front released in 2015  an album which currently is not getting out of my CD Player:
Europe - War of Kings!

2015 is a great year for prog already and we're only halfway through it! Lots of great releases by established groups and some great debuts as well! Some of my favorites so far:

Magic Pie - King For A Day
Sanguine Hum - Now We Have Light
Arcane - Known/Learned
No More Pain -  The Post Human Condition (great debut from these guys, looking forward to seeing them continue)
Native Construct - Quiet World (another great debut, can't wait to see them live in August)
Beardfish - Comfort Zone
Breaking Orbit - Transcension
Chaos Divine - Colliding Skies
Leprous - The Congregation
Sylvan - Home
Anekdoten - Until All the Ghosts Are Gone

and others as well, some already mentioned here.

Plus we have new ones coming from Riverside (finally gonna get to see them live this year, YEYAH!), Subsignal, Spock's Beard, Echolyn, Godsticks and more. What a great year for prog!

LOL  I actually used to be into Europe as a teen due to final countdown but later kind of totally forgot about Europe.
It was years later that I heard a tune of their album Bag of Bones which is a kind of bluesy hard rock album and I bought it because I apart from Prog listen to a lot of modern  Blues Rock stuff. The newest Europe "War of Kings" is less bluesy than Bag of Bones but its an amazing kick ass hard rock album. Especially enjoyable cranked up in the car while driving down the highway.

Maybe the third major masterpiece of this year. I'm curious... Their self-titled 2012 album is on top of my list of 21st century prog albums.
